Decided to do a "foody hamper" as a xmas gift for the hardest man in the world to buy for...AKA my dad

But have no idea what to put in it!

I come up with the basic plan and you lot can build it from there (actually my cab driver came up with the idea but hey ho )

Budget is 60ish
Brother already has nice whisky for hi
will do gadget or food
live in london so everything is available

here is the vinegar

I would add unusual cheese, oatcake biscuits, salamis or other cooked meats, fancy pickles and olives.

pickles and preserves, cheeses, crackers, chocolate florentines, nice biscuits/shortbread. little bottle of his favourite drink, bottle of wine.

How about a nice drinks glass in there, like for wine or whisky.. or an old fashioned ale glass?

Does he cook? There are lovely speciality food shops where you could go mad- I know an Italian one (but I am Scotland- am thinking will be similar in London, and probably greater variety!) They do all sorts of "gifty" type food- special stuffed olives in nice jars, special/ unusual pasta, wild boar (!) If he doesn't like Italian etc, maybe some asian ingredients?

I received a fabulous foodie hamper from a friend not long ago, was Irish artisan stuff, heavenly! Cheeses, salmon, etc....
Have a Google artisan hampers perhaps, many will let you choose what goes into it.

I'd go to a Delicatessen shop they probably have lots of products ready for these types of presents. Spanish serrano ham is just delicious, and best if it is "pata negra" or "de bellota" (acorn fed).

My sister is a foodie but also a chef and I am buying her some Hymalayan pink salt. I know VERY extravagant but she will like it.

Second the idea of going to a really good Italian deli. Panettone, cured meats and cheeses, oils and vinegars spring to mind, plus some crackers and very good chocolate, maybe some biscotti too.

Marvelous Christmas present idea, Tia! :-)

Christmas hampers are something that my family do every year. DH has a sweet tooth, so often our hampers are all about the sweets! There have been some fabulous Italian ideas on this thread which I may have to steal for this year's hamper.

Have you thought about including any recipe books along with the food? I work with Great Ormond Street Hospital and ASK restaurants have compiled a celeb pasta recipe book with some delish recipes in! A portion of all proceeds go towards the hospital as well - just in time for Christmas :)

From one foodie to another,
Amy

I did this for my PIL a few years ago. Trying to remember what I included, nice pate and crackers from Selfridges, olive oil, g and b dark choc with ginger, homemade christmas pud, wine, stilton, and a melton mowbray pork pie (they live in Ireland, we're in Leicestershire!).
