recommendations for roasting dishes

Hello

I want a good roasting dish, that will not stick and is easy to wash up. about a year ago, I got a reasonably priced and recommended one from John Lewis with non-stick coating, but the coating has disintegrated.

somewhere I read that dishwashers are no good for non-stick.

on the whole, I've found le creuset pottery dishes hard wearing and good washers for roasting potatoes etc. but they tend to be on the small side.

any thoughts ladies?

thanks

I now have 3 shiny metal ones - stainless steel maybe? They are fabulous - food does stick sometimes but comes off after soaking, any burnt-on brown marks round the edges come off with a gentle scrub, & they can go in the d/w (although they take up a lot of space)

2 of them nest so don't even take up much cupboard room, they were dead cheap (about £10 from Lidl iirc) & seem as if they will last forever Smile

I no longer use baking trays for cooking, but use my Pampered Chef stone trays. They are fantastic, easy to clean although not cheap, but have lasted for years now. And the food tasted nicer, not tinny.

I recommend them, along with Le Crueset.

Mermaid do good ones, both non-stick and not, I've got both large and small in enamel and s/s. The Tefal ones, even non-stick, are ok in the dishwasher, I'd check to be sure, but the ones bought in France are ok, and the non-stick is still on them.

Was going to suggest the double stainless steel ones linked to by Ponders (eg number 1 on the list). Can't remember which make my one is, but it's brilliant. The base is big enough to take the turkey at Christmas, but I usually just use the lid to do a normal Sunday roast.

Entirely agree with what Ponders says about cleaning them too.

I had a lovely enamel roasting tin with lid for Christmas from my MIL. Like this, but mine is black.
It's not non-stick, but I've never had a problem with getting bits off it, and it's fine in the dishwasher.

I use it for stews and making stock too.

can't vouch for quality obv but they look exactly like mine

Mermaid. Every time. Lakeland and JL sell them, not cheap but great quality. I use mine all the time they are as good as new and had them at least 6 years.

I've got massive black le cruset baking dishes and they are fab and soo easy to clean.

Enamel stuff is good too.

Anything coated or stainless steel just gets chewed up and spat out by my dishwasher so I don't even bother with them any more.

Another thing to remember is that non-stick coated roasters cannot be used for making gravy in the hob easily as the coating tends to blister with the intense heat and bubble off into the gravy; ruined gravy and ruined pan. Anodised aluminum or Enamelled are OK for that, or even Le Creuset Cast iron.

I also agree with Ponders, I have threee different sizes of stainless steel ones and wouldn't go back to non-stick. And one of them I have had about 8 years and it's still in great condition.

I have the type without lids in her amazon link.
