225g SR flour (1/2 wholemeal, 1/2 white)
120ml milk (day out of date if poss)
50g butter
pinch salt

sweet- 25g caster sugar
50g saltana
Cheese - 50g grated cheese.

I ALWAYS double sieve the flour. Touch as little as possible, roll out minimally. put a few drops of water on a HOT baking tray before putting in the oven.
This would normally feed my family of 7 if we had smallish ones, so perhaps double, or of you want bigger x3.

HTH.

skimmed or full fat milk

I always use full fat, because that is what we have here.

PavlovtheCat · 21/11/2010 18:54

oh good, doesn't seem to matter, used skimmed in one lot, full in the other, no noticeable difference!

They have not risen as well as I had hoped, you know, that slightly lopsided slightly cracked on one side as it rises up look? they taste yummy though!

Well done, mine dont tend to rise much, which is why I dont roll them out much. Start thicker and they look as if they have risen, but really started off like that!! Wink

Hope your colleagues like them. Is it for a celebration?

PavlovtheCat · 21/11/2010 19:52

no, part of a cake coop thingy, every thursday someone in the coop brings in cake/something baked to have with morning coffee. It was my turn before going on leave, but I had just returned from being off with stomach bug, felt they would prefer not to eat anything made by me! I promised i would bring in an additional something this week, tomorrow. I am doing some cheese, and some sweet with jam/clotted cream. not sure i want any more Wink Grin

Are you making them in the morning before work?
If you have made them already, can I suggest you bung them in the freezer overnight, they dont keep well at all. (But maybe I am being fussy!)

PS where do you work? Can I apply for a job, no cakes, ever where I work, unless I make them - although ALL my colleagues are male or 17 years old, so no surprise really!

PositiveAttitude · 21/11/2010 20:14

I know you have made some, I meant have you made them all?

PavlovtheCat · 21/11/2010 20:14

oh crap, really? will freezing them not screw them up either?

i could just freeze these ones for us, and do some more? got enough flour/butter/milk/sugar/cheese for another two batches...

PositiveAttitude · 21/11/2010 20:21

oh, don't panic. They freeze beautifully. If you stick them in tonight and get them out in the morning they will be as fresh as now.

PositiveAttitude · 22/11/2010 10:21

Hope they were appreciated. Smile

PavlovtheCat · 22/11/2010 13:44

i made some more! froze the others last night for us, this lot went down a treat! (i got them to rise a bit more by putting in a pinch of bicarb)
