Baking recipe books

I'm looking for something that has everything - big round traditional cakes, a few cupcakes/muffins, flapjacks/tray bake thingies, and biscuits/cookies. Had a look in the bookshop yesterday and they all seem to be either 300 Ways to Decorate a Cupcake, or Cakes With Flowers on for Old Ladies.

Any recommendations? DD is starting to get keen on stirring bowls so any inspiration beyond DH's ancient Good Housekeeping book Grin would be very welcome!

You need the Mary Berry baking bilbe thingy. The one they sell at Lakeland (just put my catalogue in the recycling else I'd check). It is fabulous and has a lovely section for baking with dcs too.

Oooh looks good, will see if I can find a copy.

I like Nigella's "How to be a Domestic Goddess". it also has a good children's ection :)

A few wee editng errors though: the quantities in Lily's Scones are wrong: should be 75g Trex ('cos she actually mentions "or use another 75g butter")

I have Mary Berry's too, it is bloody brilliant! It has everything you would ever want to bake in there and also useful tips and info on the basics like storing, lining tins, what materials to use and so on.

My favourite is Leith's Baking Bible, its incredibly comprehensive and has a very helpful troubleshooting guide in each section. The only downside is the lack of pictures.

I recently got the Australian Women's Weekly Cupcakes and Baking and its wonderful. Recipes are just that little bit different.

Have a look on amazon for the Little Red Barn Baking Book - great recipes by American author, nice and quirky, too. Does anyone have the Great Book of British Baking or whatever it's called BTW - you know, the one that came out after the Bake Off programme? I'd like it for christmas - is it good?

MrsC - don't have it, nearly got it, lovely pics in it. I decided most of the recipes I wanted from it were available on Ruth's site here

Another vote for Mary Berry - great baking Smile
Am munching on a slice of her carrot cake tray bake as I type (made it yesterday)
Use her book all the time for baking.

Thanks Taffeta - I did go on Ruth's site a while ago and there's some lovely stuff on there, it's true.
