Slow cooker recipes involving NO precooking?

Hi,

Can you help? I've recently bought a slow cooker but I find you still have to spend a similar amount of time cooking, if you follow the instructions and precook as instructed.

Do you have any good recipes where you can just bung the ingredients in the cooker, switch it on and come back home to a delicious stew (or whatever)? Thanks!

I'm not sure that what you would like to do is possible. What you need to do is heat what ever dish you are cooking until at 'bubbling' point and then tip it into the slow cooker which has also been heated up - previously switched on high for 20mins. Start with the slow cooker switched on high and when the food starts to bubble, switch it onto low for the remaining time. It is not essential to pre-cook to start with but things definitely taste better if you do.
The main advantage of a slow cooker is that you can come in at the end of the day and it is all ready instead of having to sweat over a hot stove when you least feel like it.

I would recommend the book 'Slow Cooking' by Katie Bishop. Loads of recipes where you just chuck all the ingredients in without having to pre-brown them, turn on and leave.

Is brilliant.

All of them - just chuck it in - I never bother browning the meat or anything, it'll be fine.

I've never browned anything.

Same here, no browning/precooking, all just get bunged in raw. Diced veg at bottom covered in liquid, meat on top, lid on, switch on, off you go!
