Christmas puddings steaming in oven

Just read on another receipe and thought I'd give it a try instead of all the steam and cooker being far too busy.

One is cooking in a huge le-creuset cook pot with lid on and the other in a smaller pan with foil lid. I had some mix left so I've put them in plastic babyfood pots - worth a try perfect shape and size.

Will let you know how they go. Im very interested to see how the mini pots go.

Hi bacon! be careful with the plastic pots i managed to fxxx up pots and puddings doing the same in normal steamer one christmas!

Well, good news it worked perfectly! I had oven on 140. Using a big crock pot with lid avoid all the water topping up too. 6hrs.

Using foil cover as well as the greaseproof paper also stopped too much moisture getting into the pudding.

The mini puds are perfect too. I knew my stash of plastic pots would eventually be useful after the baby foods - perhaps if a little big on portion control really so could be useful for making icecream puddings or midweek sharing.

much better than doing it on the stove.

Yr plastic pots must have been stronger than mine. Which way uses more energy do you think on the gas stove or in the oven?

Probably the same energy as both hob and oven are electric. Oven very low.

The pots were the type you do heat the foil was wrapped underneath too so no touching the base of the pan. Assume that the steam method you used may have had too much pressure.

Yes i think that's true about the pots. It seems odd that the puddings can be kept boiling in a low oven good idea though.
