Storing cakes

I have recently started baking and doing things for the kids but I have no cupboard space to put the cakes etc. when they are cooked, I have to put them on the work surface.

Can I store them for a reasonable time (2 or 3 days, sometimes four) in the decorative cake tins that you can get with out them going too stale or do I have to get boring tupperware to keep it fresh?

I always wrap mine in greaseproof then foil, then put in a tin. Ice just before you need.

But then I am damned if something I've slaved to make is going to go stale. Grin

With the cakes I've made, the texture often starts changing by the 3rd or 4th day if I just store them in a cake tin. Unless you know your family's going to finish everything up by then, consider freezing some of the cake. Cakes normally freeze well.

Thank you for the tips ladies. Think I will bite the bullet and get the tins. If I have any problems then I will have to convert to tupperware.

it's v much dependent on the type of cake imho
agree with tc's suggestion of wrapping before storing in a tin
tbh i only use tupperware for things like brownies, millionaires shortbread etc as i keep these in the fridge
