i need to lose weight, but i am fed up of doing things like weight watchers and slimming world etc - i want to just have a go at eating helthy meals and trying to do some exercise. my goal is my wedding which is in 2 years, so i can afford to lose it slowly by trying to change my eating habits.
only trouble is i can only think of 2 things that are healthy - stirfry and grilled chicken and veg. i also like sauces - so if anyone knows anything healthy and yummy that would be great! thanks

I think portion sizes are the key to losing weight. When you're serving the food, halve what you would normally have and that's what you should eat!

I make low fat curries with fat free yoghurt, stirfries but add a cup of rice for DH, lean steak and salad and a couple of new potatoes.

Tomorrow I am on a mission to lose a stone - I've tried before but my mind was not right IYKWIM. Christmas girl's night out is looming and my mates are skinny!!

I'm veggie but you could probably adapt these to have some chicken or whatever.

Vegetable soups, e.g. carrot and lentil, or squash and red pepper.

Kebabs with quorn / tofu, courgette, mushroom and pepper. Serve with rice or quinoa

Roasted aubergine, peppers, mushrooms and butternut squash served with couscous or rice

Kidney bean stew with leeks, mushrooms, tomatoes and carrots

Bolognaise made with quorn mince (it's very low fat) and wholemeal pasta as it will fill you up more, or top the bolognaise with potato for a sort of shepherds pie.

Just use as little olive oil as possible when cooking and try to have lots of filling, unprocessed ingredients such as veg, wholegrains, beans and pulses etc. Can't think of many sauces that are healthy - sorry! A nice fresh tomato sauce with onions, mushrooms and basil goes well with lots of dishes, though.

Soups are always very good as not only are they low fat but you so healthy for you. Brilliant for a quick supper served with preferably some wholemeal/wholegrain bread

Most things with tomatoey sauces are good.
A good tip is not to add extra fat when cooking meat or vegetables unless absolutely necessary.
These books are full of brilliant recipes yet healthy and not costly - : here! Good Luck!

You can really fill up on salads, and they needn't be boring lettuce-tomato-cucumber-with-cottage-cheese. Try adding some tinned beans (not Baked Beans), or frozen peas (you don't need to cook them, they will defrost within a couple of minutes of mixing the salad. Any tinned fish, a hard-boiled egg, some chunks of cheese (I think crumbly cheeses like Cheshire go best). You can put fresh fruit or nuts in as well. Any combination of the above! Olives, capers, or pickled veg add tanginess. For dressing use only olive oil for the 'oily' bit - it's so good for you and for your digestion that you should eat as much of it (uncooked) as you like, the calories are totally overpowered by its goodness - but, again, almost anything else you fancy for the rest of the dressing: plain yogurt and a shake of dill, or balsamic vinegar and honey (but keep that as a treat - honey=sugar of course).

pasta, peas and ham cooked in olive oil. Really easy as peas and pasta cooked together and then ham added with the olive oil in the same pan and just mixed up. Anything like that is plain and they love it. Saves on washing up too.
