What am I doing wrong??? I don't have space to store loads of plastic containers and have been using the plastic freezer bags on a roll (usually from waitrose) but every time when i thaw the stuff out (have learnt to put the bag on a plate), loads of liquid leaks out!!

Lakeland is the answer.

Now, what is the question? Grin

For sauces and soups especially, you want their "gusseted" bags, they stand up on the table so you can pour stuff in. They're usually on 3 x 2 and are one of my absolute unchangeable essentials. I freeze everything in them, not just soups/sauces.

I know you say you can't store loads of plastic containers but how about putting frozen cubes of food (once frozen in ice cube tray) into those plastic containers you get from the takeaway? They stack really well, better than freezer bags imho, and you just take however many cubes you need out at a time. You can defrost them overnight in the fridge in whatever bowl the child will use, so no leakage!

Oh yes, when I run out of my Lakeland bags, I use foil trays!

Is there a link for the lakeland ones??? I mjst get this sorted out for my sanity!!

littlemisslozza - it's not children's food it's family food as it were, so bol for 4 people / chicken stock / goulash etc etc - not really practical in ice cubes.

I do have some takeaway containers but they're not big enough usually!

thaw them in bowls

I bought really good bags called Pour and Store from Sainsburys. They stand up so you can pour soup or whatever into them and don't leak. I think there's 8 in the box for about £1.50.

I find the same as you - they don't leak when they're filled or in the freezer but just when thawing.

They are cheap though so I've stuck with them as just put on a plate/bowl to defrost.

Think it's mainly ice/water that comes out rather than the food itself though.

Oh I see! Yes, the thought of putting family meals in ice cube trays has made me chuckle...

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 07/11/2010 19:23

so good to know it's just not me! I'll use my lot up, standing overything in a bowl and then have a sneaky trip to lakeland and buy in bulk! Thanks everyone!!
