Tesco, waitrose, sainsbo:- which home delivery service should I use for first time ever?

We want to get it right first time out; don't want to go thru hassle of signing up to all to try them, if poss.

  1. Is there a minimum cost of order ?
  2. Is one more expensive than the rest?
  3. Is waitrose part of john lewis - and therefore we approve of its socialist wage-structure?
  4. What do we need to watch out for, that I might not think of?
  5. Are the delivery companies actually part of the supermarket chains, or separate companies?
  6. Um, any other comments?

Most important thing is don't think you'll get it right first time. It needs to suit you, not someone else! It took me a very long time to get used to the lack of control (!) and to get to a point where I can rave about it rather than ranting.

I use Ocado when they send offers (very often) or Sainsburys for free del midweek.

I think you're overthinking it! Ocado is great, there are some good first time offers out there. Just try one and see how it goes.

In answer to question 3 - yes Waitrose is part of the John Lewis parnership, and therefore they have the same ethos for their food suppliers and workers as JL.

No 5. - Deliverers are employed by the supermarkets.

I'd use Waitrose every time for many reasons, but you do need to know which one is best in your area and make the decision yourself.

Which supermarket is ocado, then?

Thanks for replies

Ocado is separate but sells Waitrose food. It Is the only one I would use. Most of them have good introductory offers via cash back websites like Quidco.

Should add, the reason I like Ocadd is that they operate out of a central warehouse unlike the others which are store based. Therefore I have only ever had one substituted item from them, whereas it seemed like at least one per delivery with Sainsbos.

If you go to mysupermarket.com you can compare all the online delivery services. Add your shopping based on one supermarket, it will tell you if another is cheaper.

Waitrose - 50 pounds minimum odrer, free delivery, quality food.
Or Ocado.

i use ocado or sainsburys. the sainsburys food is not quite so nice, but delivery if free during the week and it does seem a bit cheaper. also depends on who's giving me money off. i don't use tescos so much as food is similar to sainsburys and delivery charges are quite high
