I am so bored of food

SixtyFootDoll · 05/11/2010 16:41

Bored of thinking about what we can have
Bored of shopping for it
Bored of cooking it
Even bored of eating it

If I lived alone I think I could easily live on toast and super noodles.

I can cook quite well and have a few recipe books, but find it all such a faff.

EVeryone in the family likes/ dislikes different things. The only meal we all like is a roast dinner.

Yawn.

I hear you sister! Amen!

I revert to beans on toast or omelettes whenever I am without DH/DC.

taffetacat · 05/11/2010 17:32

Beans on toast and omelettes are weekly staples for the DC here

As a child, I had:

Sardines on toast
Poached egg on toast
Minced beef from a tin on toast
Ravioli from a tin on toast

Every week.

My mum liked toast, heck, everyone likes toast. Love your toaster.

NumberoneSportacusfan · 05/11/2010 17:35

I am bored of food too because DH has started working away in the week so I can't be bothered to be adventurous and cook things that the DCs may refuse to try. So I am bored of eating the same thing over and over again.

CheeseandGherkins · 05/11/2010 17:35

I do love cooking but lately I have reached a height of can't be arsedness with regards to cooking. I start off the day with great intentions of cooking wonderful food and end it sticking something in the oven/toaster etc. I'm putting my apathy down to being 33 weeks pregnant and huge though! Hoping my love for cooking returns soon.

colditz · 05/11/2010 17:36

Mine had egg on toast for tea because I couldn't be arsed to think of anything they wouldn't moan about.

pantaloons · 05/11/2010 17:38

I'm sat here now waiting for dh to bring the eldest 2 back from swimming. They are fully expecting tea on the table, but I have done erm nothing!

Oh well, wish me well, it was nice knowing you all!

OopsDoneItAgain · 05/11/2010 17:40

Mine won't eat anything on toast such is thier fuss-arsed-ness

I hate trying to think of stuff they will eat

Bored here too. Sigh.

NumberoneSportacusfan · 05/11/2010 17:40

I have a list inside the cupboard door of meals. There are 'sure winners', 'will eat without complaint if starving', 'will whinge a bit but some of it' and 'don't bother unless there is another adult present or I will feel I have wasted my time!

NumberoneSportacusfan · 05/11/2010 17:41

'will whinge a bit but eat some of it'

noddyholder · 05/11/2010 17:43

Me too Am going out for a curry as I can't face the indecision

PfftTheMildySpookyDragon · 05/11/2010 17:45

I feel exactly the same.

I can cook. I have loads of cook books. I know how to cook decent food.

But the thought, of planning it, shopping for it, cooking it, and then even eating it URGH.

Faff is the right word, that's what it feels like. When I lived alone I ate beans on toast all the time.

SecretNutellaFix · 05/11/2010 17:45

snap

I love the idea of food, just not the practicalities.

DS1 likes

peas
mushrooms
most veg acshully

but not
sweetcorn
eggs

DS2 hates peas and mushrooms but loves all of the above that ds1 hates

I miss Indian takeaway!

Will be having spicy coconut and lentil soup tonight though. I didn't feel like making it and would definitely have ordered Indian had that been an option.

SecretNutellaFix · 05/11/2010 17:59

We'll probably get aburger at the fireworks display tonight.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/11/2010 18:00

I know exactly how you feel. I love food, like cooking and am good at it. Everything I make is always yummy, but I just cannot be arsed.

I have implemented a new rule, which is something easy and borderline 'ready-meal' on a Friday which is when the shopping gets delivered, takeaway on Saturday, roast on Sunday, something with the leftover roast on Monday. That only leaves me with 3 days a week where I really have to think about what we have - much better :)

Riven - enjoy Grin I could murder a curry, but I've just put pizzas in the oven.

Furball · 05/11/2010 18:05

Me too - Bored, bored, bored.

In fact I have secretly turned ds and dh into vertial vegetarians Shock as I can't be bothered to sort out meat Shock

we seem to live on bacon and chicken and variations of pasta and egg and chips.

Infact was quite pleased with myself as I've been to sainsburys and bought a couple of ready meals so I don't have to dredge up more dirge from scratch

iTigress · 05/11/2010 18:08

Otherside - I know it's not
in the spirit of the thread but how do you make your soup? It sounds yum!

I'm getting a Maccy D's en route to fireworks - job done. Wine is the only benefit of being the cook.

SixtyFootDoll · 05/11/2010 18:12

Phew glad to know it's not just me.
Riven enjoy your takeaway.

In the spirit of Bonfire night we are having herta hot dogs and oven chips. Grin

Know what you mean. And if I ask the family what they want, they can't think of anything. I have to think of meals all *^£"! week, not to mention cook them, and they act totally helpless when I ask them for a bit of input. Don't know why I bother sometimes!

Othersideofthechannel · 05/11/2010 18:41

It's the first time I've made it. I'll post the recipe later on when I've tasted it! (There are a couple of bits that need to be added at the last minute, but it tastes quite good so far)

DD is reading over my shoulder for the first time. Are my mn days numbered?

twolittlemonkeys · 05/11/2010 18:55

Snap, I can cook, enjoy cooking when I'm in the mood, and have been told by DH and friends that my cooking is excellent but I just cannot be bothered now. The DSs (4 and 2) are so fussy, all they ever want is fishfingers, chicken dippers, baked beans, tinned spaghetti or cheese on toast and tomato soup. I'm so sick of planning meals that don't get eaten by the kids and it just seems like too much faff to go to any trouble just for DH and myself.

Enjoy your takeaway Riven! :)

Oblomov · 05/11/2010 19:17

Snap. I stand in the supermarket and I just don't know what to buy. My thought process goes like this :
shall I buy mince and make a shepherds pie ? we need to eat some nice veg. brocolli ? runner beans? yes need greens. oh god what will i get to go with that.

and so it continues. often i go to the reduction section and try and be inspired. and then go off to get veg etc to go with it.
and I have a dh and 2 ds's that eat almost anyhting. so i can't even blame them. its just me. the drudge of it.
so fed up. such a chore.
