Can I cook them today?? Was planning to slow cook Spanish chicken and rice tonight.
Do you stick to use by dates for meat? I have always used before it go that far but had an unexected busy weekend and didn't get a chance to cook it.

Smell them. If fine, I would cook them, if even very slightly off,I wouldn't.

Yes, I do always adhere to sell-by dates for chicken.

Ime chicken always smells rank if it gets to its sell-by date, and often a few days before.

Open the packet and smell it. Don't cook it if you are at all suspicious.

What they all said.
Trust your own sense of smell, not some bar-code date.

Ah but I am the same as scaley, except I hate the smell (and touch) of raw chicken always..... It looks a little grey, maybe I'll just go and buy sone more to be safe, but oh what a waste :-(

I took the plunge and smelt it (I usually hold my breath!!)
and it smelt bad but bad as in just like normal bad, not bad "off" bad, so stuck it in, I'm sure we've eaten worse in a curry!!
