Pumpkin leftovers from making lanterns

I wanted to make pumpkin pie, but all the recipes I can find online say to use a can and to steam the pumpkin?!

At the moment my pumpkin is a big pile of stringy stuff not chunky at all so how the hell do I cook it?!

The stringy stuff is the stuff that holds the seeds, you don't want that... The best thing to do is wait til your jack o' lantern has had its Halloween fun, then chop it in half, roast it, take the peel off and mash the pulp. :)
Can I add that the orange 'Halloween' pumpkins are not very tasty, and squash works much better for pumpkin pie?

You chop it across the grain iyswim, so it is in little bits, steam it until soft and mushy, and drain if necessary.

That is the equivalent of canned for a pie. I only bothered once as my children wanted to try it.

I think pumpkin pie must be a bit of an acquired taste.

You could just add it to a veg soup of course.

I did this with scooped out pumpkin flesh, microwaved, and it's very nice. Not very pumpkin-ny but very nice. But you have to squeeze out the water... Or at least our pumpkin was very watery ...

I made this earlier on but as muffins and they are YUM!

I have this in the oven at the mo.

I scraped out my pumpkin so it was stringy - just steamed it for 10 mins or so, then blended it with the tofu ( i know, tofu in a pie sounds yucky, but its tasteless honest!)

Also made a soup but it was a bit tasteless so i grated parmesan in to my DH and DS's.

thanks or the replies sadly they came too late! It wasn't the stringy seedy stuff but the sort of next later in. I added 2 eggs, some vanilla, 150g light brown sugar, cinamon and some chopped pecans. I threw this mixture onto half baked sweet pastry and put in the oven for 40 minutes.

It tastes like a jam tart. What's it supposed to taste like?! Grin
