What will happen if I make pancake batter with self raising flour?

Promised DCs pancakes for breakfast but only got SR flour, will they still be OK? The batter will stand overnight so won't be so full of air. They are looking forward to nutella on them in the morning Smile (as am I)

yes it'll be fine!

alfabetty · 27/10/2010 19:58

Thanks. Will they be more like scotch pancakes or no different?

Am about to start whisking....

they'll be fine just slightly thicker than pancakes made with plain flour.

Wish I was as organised as you in the mornings Smile

Will probably lose a lot of its rise by standing overnight.

I use SR flour regularly when we're out of the other stuff, nobody minds.

I always use SR flour and extra baking powder to make pancakes. Lovely, light and fluffy. Yummy with bacon, eggs and maple syrup.

Not organised, had promised pancakes this afternoon but didn't quite get round to it!

But no school, DH and I off work, so pancakes tomorrow morning it is. All whisked and done now, SO much quicker when the DCs aren't helping!

Just don't use bread mix. :(

alfabetty · 27/10/2010 20:04

Damsel, I'll add some baking powder too - half a tsp?

baking powder will make them rise more. so more of an american pancake iyswim

alfabetty · 27/10/2010 20:05

Oldlady, bread making (even from a packet) is well beyond my capabilities! Smile

Yeah, it'll make them rise more so you'll get American style pancakes (or scotch pancakes if you make them small). If they're going to rise, you may as well have them rise loads and be all light and fluffy.

Thanks all.

DH is suggesting we eat them now! Will resist...

Just that DS2 and his pal took it into their heads to make pancakes one night, and used breadmix... they didn't tell us until it was too late... Grin

(uncooked yeast in bread mix leads to upset tummy. :( )
