My DD is having a birthday party on Saturday and one of the children coming has a nut allergy, I cant find any party food that doesnt contain nuts or been made in a factory with nuts..
Also this LO is Muslim so no pork products or Gelatine, Does anyone have any ideas of what to give them for party food as I dont want to single him out by giving him completely different food
Thanks

Oh I had this recently, and ended up aghast at the limited supply of nut free food available generally. I spoke to the mother of the child concerned to see what food the child like, and could eat, and it actually emerged that she would rather bring the child's food herself, knowing it to be nut-free.
Have you tried speaking to the child's parents as they go through this all the time?

I always take a plate of food for my DD whenever she is invited to a party.

I wouldn't expect anyone else to have the hassle of feeding her.

Just speak to the parent.

mumoffourgirls · 27/10/2010 20:27

The parents dont speak very good english and I wont see them until the party as the children are off school now for half term.
I cant even find a birthday cake that hasnt came into contact some way or another with nuts..

Can you make the birthday cake? Cream and jam, use new bags of flour etc so no cross contamination from your stores cupboard.
Do meat/cheese/fruit and veg plate.
Make cookies and if you can stand the mess allow the children to decorate?
Home made marshmallows will have a think and be back

Jelly can be made without gelatine - check out health food shops for carragheen or other non gelatine alternatives.

Little frozen lollies made from fruit juice?

Carrot sticks and hummus?

Def make your own fairy cakes, or make a sponge traybake which can then be iced and cut into small squares.

Home made vegetable crisps e.g. parsnip and sweet potato.

The Village Bakery in Melmerby has a nut-free bakery for guaranteed nut-free products. Tesco and Waitrose stock their goodies, or they do mail order.

Lovely that you are taking such care for the allergic child.
My ds has nut allergy and like monkeyjamtart we let him eat things with warnings on as otherwise the choice is too restrictive .The warnings have to be taken with a pinch of salt at times.
However I don't expect other people to make that decision for ds . It would be really helpful if you could keep the packaging and show it to the mum when she comes. She will beable to say what she will alow him to eat.
