and am watching the last 3 weeks worth of the show.

Very good book which I am surprised at. Had books in the past and usually see 1 recipe I like. This one has lots.

I am not sure however about the nutritional content of spaghetti and marmite!

Lots of vitamin B in MarmiteGrin! I bought this book last week and have been lovingly stroking it ever since - also made the choc chip cookies on Saturday and they were yummy!

I only buy recipe books that when I flick through I would cook the first three recipes I turn to, this rules out a surprising number of books!

I bought this book before the show started, had I had waited I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Wish I'd got Jamies now.

I'm hoping that's not spagetti and marmite together!

I was definitely thinking about getting her book but there are so many out there that I don't know what to choose! At the moment, I'm compiling my favourite recipes and trying to create my own new ones. I've already got so many cookbooks, I may as well start creating my own!

I've just started using mine this week, as I bought it last month then misplaced it Blush

The toad in the hole went down very well on Monday night. Am also brewing up some black berry vodka for Christmas

:)

'I'm hoping that's not spagetti and marmite together!' - sadly YES!!!!

Have also got some blackberry vodka on the go Smile

the sunshine soup is deliciosa!

I don't think nutritional content has ever been nige's strong point.

I don't really think cooking has ever been nige's strong point.

kayah · 27/10/2010 20:19

even though she is blessed with a library with all possible cookery books :)

abgirl · 28/10/2010 10:38

To stand up a bit for the nige, I have used lots of recipes from the Domestic Goddess cookbook and have always been very happy with the results (tbh though I don't watch the programmes as I find her annoying on screen!)

cazzybabs · 28/10/2010 10:41

spaghetti and marmite - surely that is no worse than a marmite sandwhich

Guacamole · 28/10/2010 10:52

I'm going to stand up for Nigella here... I think her recipes are very practical, easy to do, yummy, feed your whole family without millions of ingredients useful!
I love Nigella Express and am getting to love Kitchen too. The chicken in tarragon sauce is delicious (although I tweaked it slightly and added some Dijon mustard to it), it's very 80s. I like the idea of the leftovers bit... But with my DH there are rarely any leftovers in our house!

Oh yeah and I lurve marmite and am up for giving marmite and spaghetti a go!

turnitup · 28/10/2010 10:57

The marmite thing is just not what I want to see when I buy a recipe book.

TabithaTwitchet · 28/10/2010 11:16

I haven't bought the book, though I have flicked through it covetously in the bookshop.

I made spaghetti with marmite, sprinkled with cheddar, for DD last night, and it was gobbled down in a very short time. I couldn't actually remember how Nigella did it, but I think the idea itself is a good one for a v quick meal for kids.

DH came home from work in the middle and asked excitedly if we were having it too. He was a bit put our when he found we weren't! Grin

But isn't the whole point of this one that they are the things she eats and cooks at home? She's not a chef, just a cook.

BelligerentGhoul · 29/10/2010 15:46

I don't believe that Nigella actually eats many, if any, of the things she puts in her books. She is selling a combination of lifestyle (oh yes, I regularly use yak milk darling, you should try mixing it with the Tibetan rose oil and the walnuts that were hand picked by baboons in Tuscany) and shock value through 'who'd have thought it' recipes or 'who'd ever spend that much on a family meal' recipes. She used to be fairly sane when she was married to John Diamond I think but she is becoming more and more a parody of a parody and I suspect she actually just eats cheese on toast or noodles most of the time now.

Pinkjenny · 29/10/2010 15:47

I've made the Spanish Chicken, it was delish, but the chorizo was slightly frazzled after an hour in the oven. I just like looking at the book, though. Even flicking through it makes me feel all serene and goddess-like.

" (oh yes, I regularly use yak milk darling, you should try mixing it with the Tibetan rose oil and the walnuts that were hand picked by baboons in Tuscany) "

In fairness to Nigella (again) I've looked through Kitchen, Nigella Express, Feast and Nigella Christmas and I can't fund Yak's milk or Tibetan Rose Oil... I have found Walnuts but she doesn't specify if they were picked by baboons or not.

Can't find not fund!
