Hob has just broken and I have a glut of apples!

Help! My mother gave me a huge number of cooking apples which I was going to turn into sauce and apple pie filling today.

Is there a way to do it in the oven? If not what is the best way to freeze the apples? They are windfalls and are therefore already a bit past their best.

Plus, can you make gravy in the oven?

I'm sure you can - just prepare as you would pop in the oven and cover.

I guess you could do gravy similarly.

Do you have a slow cooker?

You could do baked apples.

Or I'm sure you could make some sort of stewed apple in the oven. Peel and cut up as per normal, add some boiling water and sugar and put in oven. Keep checking for doneness.

My mother freezes apples, all peeled and cut up, and then uses a bagful to make apple crumble or sauce straight from frozen.

@Maud No I don't have a slow cooker, but have definitely been thinking about getting one!

Apples, peel, chop and freeze. they might start going a bit brown, but unless you are making a French Apple Tart, it shouldn't matter too much when they are cooked.

Gravy in the oven - difficult. Whilst I have to wash my mouth out when mentioning the name, but as a last measure, isn't Bisto made just by adding boiling water from the kettle?

If you have a microwave, you can cook the apples in that.
