dd, after eating small amounts of everything in sight, became fussy around 16m. Ds is just turned one and starting to become a little fussy. I found it useful to have a bank of frozen portions of home-made meals which were familiar which she had (and still has) for lunch.Protein based, so bolognese sauce with pasta stars (soup pasta, cheap and v.quick to cook), bread and butter or fried spuds/mash. Very keen on small gnocchi, I buy from Waitrose and keep in freezer, cook in seconds. Macaroni and cauliflower & broccoli cheese. Chicken, root veg and pearl barley stew. Mash, sausage and beans - ok, not new, but keep organic chipolatas in freezer which are nice and tender for little mouths.

Finger food with dips very popular - raw veg, twiglets, breadsticks, crackers, cold sausages, home-made chips with organic spuds and beef dripping. Dips of sour cream and chives, home-made mayo, ketchup, houmous, mashed avocado. Sweet dips of honey/yogurt/cold custard/pot of petit filou with fresh or dried fruit, or toasted cinnamon and raisin bagel fingers.

Dd was, and still is, like a rake so keen to get extra calories in - home-made banana/apple/carrot cakes, or for a treat home-made choc brownies. Good amount of iron even in choc buttons, so no problem with these in moderation.

Good luck, I spent6m worrying myself sick over dd's small appetite before I chilled and realised she is growing just fine. Appetite goes in waves so look at what they've eaten over a week rather than a day!

My toddler eats what we are all eating. Tonight was pork chop (part of), mash and sweetcorn with gravy. I don't cook special meals for him. He also eats with us. TBH I give him his food and leave him to it. Don't take too much notice of him as we are all busy eating and chatting. He seems to eat it!

Sardines on toast is nice for lunch and has lots of calcium.

Some good tips from eeky, sounds like just the stuff mine would eat. Although we tend to give them what we are having some things go down much better than others:

Most pasta dishes
Soup (served with big chunks of bread for dipping)
Scrambled/boiled eggs
Drop scones/pancakes
Macaroni or cauliflower cheese
Sardines on toast (as cece said)
Cheese on toast
Beans on toast
Roast vegetables
Mushroom omlette
Gnocchi in tomato sauce
cream cheese & marmite sandwiches
Porridge with mashed banana and yoghurt (he'd each this 3 times a day if possible)

Oh and peas have to accompany everything

I find that my little boy is more fussy when watched if that makes sense. If I sit next to him and put the TV on at lunchtime (I know, not ideal...) and talk about the programme he tends to eat more and be less fussy. Distraction!

For lunch he loves babybel cheese, cucumber, carrot lightly steamed, cherry toms and ryvita (the one with seeds.) Then lots of fruit. Always give him at least three choices.

For dinner he loves spag bol (a toddler version I make with loads of carrots in it) or homemade fish fingers battered in cornflakes or cottage pie (just the one we have). Oh and another thing he's nuts about are breadsticks - you know the ones you used to get in Italian restaurants in the 80s?! He likes crunchy things I think.

I have a few recipes of things he likes when he's being really fussy if they're of any use:

almond battered chicken strips

spag bol with carrot

salmon and sweet potato fish cakes

carrot fritters

Looking at this now my son mostly eats carrots. Maybe I need to widen his diet a little... Smile

thanks just normal- espec for the recipes, have been wondering how to get some fish in!

Mine loves sweet potato so much he'll eat it accompanied with anything...

another thing he likes for when he's having a lazy dinner are those salmon fishfingers from birdeye.
