hi, we are having a few problems with our girl who has just turned one, up until the last couple of weeks she was a really good eater-ate anything and did not need distractions etc, now she has started turning her head and pursing her lips refusing most things. we try and give variety of finger foods and spoon fed things, she wants to do it herself but then drops it on the floor (where the dog is waiting!).is ok with her bottles of milk so dont think she is teething. is doing my head in!! we try and eat together but i can feel myself getting really tense. do i ignore her throwing things on the floor? tell her off? if we eat seperately she loves to try bits off our plates. any suggestions welcome

I try to instead of telling her what not to do - tell her what TO do, she seems to understand that better.

I.e. not don't throw your food, but put it on your plate. It's worked a treat so far.

As for the food, I feel it is a phase, just keep rotating stuff, and she'll eat when she's hungry (hopefully). (feel free to disagree, mners!)

apparetnly when the wee buggers turn 1 their growth rate slows down dramatically. Also, their fine motor control refines a lot, so there's less unecessary limb movement. As a consequence, their calorie demand decreases and they enter the 'picky eater' phase. It's only a phase apparently. Kids don't starve themselves.

DS is 1 today so I've got all this to come!!
