Can I ice a boiled fruit cake for Christmas?

I'm not a massive fan of heavy fruit cake for Christmas, but I want to make some sort of fruit cake.

In the past, I have made basically traditional cakes but they never all get eaten.

I love boiled fruit cake, though - I use an old recipe from the Be-Ro book and, IMO, it can't be beat. However, I have read that you can't ice a boiled fruit cake because the cake draws moisture out from the icing - is this true?

I really like icing, but I am open to other decorating options!

Can anyone offer me some advice? Thanks!

Yes, I will!

I might have a practice run this weekend! Thanks.

i'd go for it then, hows the cake gonna draw moisture out if you've got jam and marzipan in the way! My mum use to make her xmas cakes in a pan on the hob so i'm guessing its a similar thing....ooo enjoy :)
