DS loves oatcakes but I am concerned about the levels of salt in them. Is this valid? I am just pg again and seem to need a lot of snacks and what ever I eat he wants as well? Please advise...

cheese breadsticks?

TracyK · 12/09/2005 08:51

how much salt do they have in them? how many do you give at a time. I've relaxed a lot with snacks for my ds since he was about 14mo. I'm sure they're healthier than crisps and if you don't have salty main meals they should be ok.

dried fruit, fruit, cheese squares & grapes

carrot / sucumber sticks dipped in houmouse / cream cheese etc (or by themselves)
Raisens

Fruit
Raisen bread toast (or as bread!)

How much salt is there in an oatcake?

highlander · 12/09/2005 11:38

Dried fruit (raisins etc) are particulary bad for teeth as they are a super-concentrated source of sugar. Whole fruit is much better.

dd likes thin cheesy biscuits, breadsticks, grapes, banana, raisens (when she's in the mood for them!), apple or pear slices, custard creams, shortbread.

Thanks everyone. DS won't east things like cucumber, he is funny about fruit in general but the cheesy breadsticks sound good.

The actual quantity of salt in the oatcakes I have is 0.2g per oatcake. Is this a problem? (I only get a chance on the internet at work hence the gap in posting.)

from 1-2years, the maximum salt intake is 2g per day so as long as your lo is not eating a whole packet of oatcakes he should be fine.

Many thanks, thats great.
