Hello

I need to cook a dish on Saturday which won't be served until Sunday evening. It can't have cow dairy or wheat in it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks.

chicken curry?

I think most casseroles improve with reheating - beef in red wine, chicken and mushroom, or maybe a curry (if you can find a sauce with no wheat/dairy, or make your own).

Yes, any kind of stewy thing. Chefs are always saying the flavour improves after a day or two aren't they?

Definitely amb casserole if beef not doable - something with lamb, red wine, rosemary, veggies then mash and green veg on the side. I sometimes find chicken can get a bit dry on reheating.

Alterntively if you could spare 15 mins to do some cooking on sunday, do a ratatouille in advance and then as you reheat it do some couscous or rice and lamb chops to go with it.

Thanks for your suggestions think either beef (I meant milk etc when I said cow dairy) or lamb casserole is the way forward.

I would say chilli - you can serve with baked potatos or rice or tacos, with salad, salsa and optional cheese.

Yummy!

I tried a new recipe for a lovely, simple beef casserole for 4 last night.

800g beef stewing steak - cube, coat in well-seasoned flour, fry on hob until brown

Add 2 chopped onions, fry until brown

Add 4 sprigs of thyme, 500ml red wine, 600ml beef stock

Bring to boil then lower heat to gentle simmer. Cook with lid on on hob for 1 hour

Add 4 chopped carrots. Recipe then added 200g chestnuts, but we also thought this would work brilliantly with mushrooms instead, or a mixture of the two.

Simmer for a further hour with lid off.

I did this in the morning and reheated in the evening - delicious!

Stews and casseroles are actually often better second time around. And so quick and easy. Batch make, reheat some, freeze some.

Lamb tagine is good.

Coq au vin is lovely the next day.

goulash with pork instead of beef - really improves with a day's wait
