Suggestions for 2nd Birthday Party baking

Our DD is 2 this weekend and we are having a party at home with grandparents and another 6 mummies and toddlers. I really need help with baking as I am well out of practice - I am going to do the usual chocolate crispy cakes and fairy cakes but what else would be good? Something that looks pretty and will be yummy for toddlers and adults? Luckily MIL has invested in a very fancy birthday cake so I am let off that one! Any advice appreciated...Smile

I got a lovely recipe for Vanilla Fork Biscuits from a Mumsnetter on Twitter a while ago...

4oz Plain flour
3oz Butter
2oz Caster Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla Essence

Blitz all ingredients together in a food processor until they start to form a dough. Knead a little to fully bring everything together.
Roll into small balls about the size of a large grape (I get about 14 out of one batch), place on a baking tray and then squash gently with a fork to form stripes across the biscuit.
Bake at 150 degress for 10-15 minutes until golden. They'll spread and flatten out a little while cooking and will firm up when cool.
Lovely as they are or you could drizzle on some icing and add some sprinkles.

I used to hate making biscuits and all the hassle of the dough but now we make them all the time. Could be why the diet is not going so well anymore :)

Thanks, that sounds really easy, except I don't have a food processor, could I just mix by hand?

I should think so. I've never tried it but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Will just take a few minutes rather than a few seconds to come together.

DS loves making gingerbread people. They're always fun to cut out and decorate.

There are some lovely looking things here too. I love the Marshmallow sheep cakes - we might have to have some of those for DD's upcoming birthday :)

Thanks, I will give them a try. Smile

tray bakes? tiny pieces for chidren and bigger portions for the adults. I wouldnt do too much, keep it simple.

Home made biscuits decorated?

I think I am going for fairy cakes with butter icing and sparkles, chocolate crispy cakes with mini-marshmallows and some of Blood's little vanilla biscuits with drizzled icing and sprinkles. If I have time then some scones for the adults. Thanks for all the ideas... Smile
