can you share your fav recipes with me to try? It arrived yesterday and I'm currently making a lamb curry. Quite fancy making a sausage casserole and pot roast. Any other ideas?

This is getting silly. I got one yesterday too! Grin

I don't know if pressure cooker recipes work in slow cookers - if they do, I've got some I can dig out.

AngelDog · 07/10/2010 13:54

Are you back at work yet?

Iklboo · 07/10/2010 13:56

Shove a chicken carcass from your sunday roast (preferably with some meat still on) in the slow cooker
Add a sliced leek, carrots & baby corn
Pour in about 1 litre chicken stock
Cook on low for 5 hours or so
Voila! Chicken broth. You can thicken it with cornflour or chicken bisto if you like.

haha love the fact you got one too Grin I'd love to hear your pressure cooker recipes - got to be worth a try.

I go back the week after next :( nanny is settling in nicely with DS and it's hitting me just how much I'll miss him. But at least I know he'll be happy.

Iklboo that sounds yum. Will try. We've just started doing proper roasts now so will be able to use the carcass.

I've just been pointed in the direction of this thread.

Glad your DS is settling in okay & hope next week isn't too traumatic.

Igglybuff · 08/10/2010 07:12

Thanks will check it out.

Ta - I shed a few tears leaving home for 45 minutes so who knows how I'll cope going for a full day Hmm

Ok my first ever attempt at using my slow cooker is underway...... trying the lamb shanks curry mentioned earlier hopefully it'll turn out ok and convince DH it was worth buying this new kitchen appliance :)

Liskey · 08/10/2010 09:23

arrghh meant curry receipe on the other thread - that's what i get for reading both at the same time!

OOH you will love it. Slow cookers a bloody brilliant invention and saves so much stress at tea time.
If you google recipes you will find loads, but here is my current fave
HUNGARIAN GOULASH
Just estimate amounts depending on how many you are feeding. I usually make loads and freeze some too.
stewing steak cut into lumps
flour seasoned with salt and pepper
oil
large onions
green and red peppers
carrot peeled and chopped
paprika (be generous)
tomato puree
mixed herbs lots
black pepper
beef stock cube
can of tomatoes
glass of red wine (optional but I would!)
slop of worcestershire sauce
pinch grated nutmeg

Toss the meat in the seasoned flour, then heat oil in the pan and brown off the meat. If pan is big enough then add and soften onions, peppers, carrot too, if not, then put meat in pot and fry off veg separately.
Put all in slow cooker pot, with paprika, puree, nutmeg, herbs, seasoning, stock, tomatoes, wine, and w sauce.
Add water if needed. Just cook on medium for 5 -7 hours.

Yum!

Not a recipe as such but ham/gammon joints are great cooked in the slow cooker, if you like once done cover in honey and pop in the oven for 20 mins, YUMMY!

Igglybuff · 08/10/2010 10:57

:)

I managed 2 evenings out with DH in charge of DS. They survived although DS wasn't too impressed the second time!

I made poached pears today - will post recipe when I get time (prob next week).

Igglybuff · 09/10/2010 00:22

Oh I don't mind leaving DH in charge. Positively encourage it Grin it's leaving DS with someone else that upsets me even if I (kind of) trust them.

i made this Kashmiri Butter Chicken in the slow cooker and it was delish Smile

2 onions quartered
3 cloves garlic
2 inch piece root ginger
1 large red chilli
8 boneless chicken thighs
1 tbsp oil
1 oz butter
1 tsp crushed cumin seeds
1 tsp crushed fennel seeds
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2pt chicken stock
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp tomato puree
5 tbsp double cream
salt

  1. blend the onions/garlic/ginger & chilli in a food processor.
  2. cut the thighs into 4 pieces each and brown in a hot pan using the oil. drain on a plate when browned all over.
  3. add butter to the frying pan, when it has melted add the onion paste and cook until it starts to change colour.
  4. stir in the cumin&fennel seeds and ground spices. cook for one minute and add stock/sugar/tom puree and salt. bring to the boil.
  5. put chicken in the slow-cooker pot and cover with the sauce. make sure chicken pieces are below the surface of the liquid.
cook for 5-7 hours on low.
  1. when ready stir in the cream and serve with rice and flatbread.

enjoy Smile

I've just ordered one having read the other thread on slow cookers.

Then sorted out my recipe books today looking for ideas for xmas and found some recipe cards from Waitrose for slow cooking, (Chicken Curry, lamb tagine, paprika sausage).
I don't shop in Waitrose, but I do go in for a cup of tea sometimes as it's next to dd's nursery.
I must have picked them up last winter.

Look out for them on their recipe stand. They're free and although ingredients tend to be waitrose own, they are substitutable (that is def not a word).
