DD has started school & wants an apple in her lunch box- but chopped up. Little madam left the whole lot when I chucked in a whole appple. How do I stop it going brown? do I put a bit of lemon juice on it? I've got that in my head for some reasonGrin ta x

Lemon or lime juice is suppoed to work, and then put in an airtight container.

Doesn't matter if it goes a bit brown, it won't hurt anybody.

Best packed in airtight box or bag and chopped last minute.

i just told my dd to lump it, but i do use one of those chopper/corer things and then pack it back together in an apple shape (iykwim?) so i don't think it goes that bad.

I chop an apple into a tupperware type container and then chop segments of orange into it too.

The apple stays the right colour and the orange is tasty too - buy the large oranges, they are lovely at the moment, even the dc eat them.

we go for the expensive option and put in an apple fruit bag that is pre-cut (from fruit section in supermarket)

I just buy weeny apples from the fruit and veg van. I tell my DC apples are what teeth were invented for. Grin

If you can buy them try Limelight, Discovery or Jupiter apples- well that is the results of the taste test conducted by my neighbours of trees just planted. Red Devil is ok, and flesh pinkish which is unusual, James Grieve bruise far too easily, Katy flesh too soft for most, Red Falstaff are pleasant, Claygate Pearmain are a bit sharp and remind you of the old apple taste, ans Bramleys are easily the best for cooking.
Braeburn do not grow well in uk, but a good apple

I use a corer then leave the core in. DD can push the core out and chow down on the 'whole' apple without chewing on any core.
