I know toddlers can be fussy but...

...is this normal?

This is all my 15mo will eat:

Weetabix
Fruit pots
Yogurt
Cheese
Bread
Laughing Cow Cheese spread
Jam
Pasta with cheese sauce
Apples, pears, bananas, strawberries
Tomatoes, sweetcorn, peas, broccoli
One type of Hipp Organic 10 month food
Biscuits, cake, chocolate and most sweet things
Milk - haven't put him on cow's milk yet as I'm concerned about iron levels

No meat, no fish no eggs, no beans or other form of protein except cheese/dairy. No rice, no potatoes and absolutely no chance of "eating a bit of the family meal".

Obviously, I'm trying not to make it a battle but I'm starting to get worried and teatimes are a nightmare. Nobody I know has one this fussy!

oooh, laughing cow - is that allowed on Mumsnet? Wink

I think it's quite normal. Pasta with cheese sauce with peas and brocolli seems like a nice balanced meal. Weetabix for breakfast and cheese sandwich, fruit, yoghurt. It's all good stuff so I wouldn't stress too much.

I find the things DS is fussy about change over time, especially if you decide to stock up on the things they will eat - they suddenly decide they don't like them anymore.

shufflebum · 05/10/2010 15:06

It is restricted but there is still a good amount of fruit and veg and dairy protein plus carbs from cereal, bread and pasta. DS goes through fussy phases where he won't eat something that has previously been his favourite so that keeps me on my toes!
As you say don't make a big deal out of it keep giving him what he likes and offering him some of yours, one day he might surprise you Smile

Marylou242 · 05/10/2010 15:07

I hope so! It has to be Laughing Cow, won't touch Dairylea or anything other make.

The trouble is he's starting to go off some things on this list (including vegetables...), but unfortunately isn't replacing them with anything new....

God that's loads
don't worry!

I know the feeling! My DS is 3 and won't eat anything other than bread, cheese, fruit, weetabix and petitfilous, and cake and biscuits of course! Dinners, meat & veg are refused point blank. He used to eat all family meals but stopped overnight. We're now in the 5th week and it worries me sick! I give him a multi vitamin. Still put the dinners in front of him in the hope that he'll change back again. It's a worry no matter how many people tell you its a phase!

Apparently all my DH ate when he was that age was marmite and toast - he eats everything now and it certainly hasn't done him any harm. He soon grew out of it.

winnybella · 05/10/2010 21:40

DD used to eat everything before and now at 20 months refuses a lot of previous favourites. I stopped stressing about it. I never cook a seperate meal for her and if she doesn't like her dinner, than I'll give her a chunk of cheese, an avocado etc. I find it's a lot about control for toddlers and as long as they eat some good stuff, it isn't worth stressing.

I thought my 23 month DS was very fussy, so I kept a diary for 3 weeks and showed it to HV. She says he has a very varied diet! It is similar to the OP, but does include beef, chicken, fish and baked beans.

Marylou242 · 06/10/2010 21:09

Thanks for all the replies, I'm pleased it's not just me!

I will try to keep calm and not stress even when he throws everything I offer onto the floor, like he did tonight........

He eats a more varied diet than my 9.5 DD.
