the fundamental

The fundamental reason we are here on this earth is that we pass on our genes to another generation.
Having done that, what are the fundamental things for that life to survive?
May I suggest clean water, food, shelter and good sanitation as prerequisites.
The problem is the food, as the demographics demand 50% more food by 2030, 100% more by 2050, and as a farmer I have no idea how this may be achieved without a fundamental change in attitude by the population as a whole.
It can be done, but the planning and implementation need to be started now, but there is no urgency from authorities, as farmers are still being dictated to on certain environmental aspects, along with the usual economic considerations.
It has been written that there will be a generation so hungry that they will eat the bark off a tree, but I prefer that other story about going out in winter, do you take a coat? If you do not and encounter a blizzard you will die, whereas if you do take a coat as an encumberance, should the weather turn inclement you may well survive.
I believe in my heart of hearts we should be providing a future source of food, just in case, but my political masters say it is too expensive, too difficult etc.
You see, I have never been an official, so I still know how to do things.
Willow and mustard madam ?

That's a fantastic and coherent analysis.

YOu are obviously a highly intelligent man and I commend you for showing us where we are all going wrong.

I suggest you take this to the editors of all the newspapers in the land and write to Mr Cameron, Mr Clegg and Mr Miliband to share it as well. They are going to be so inspired bu your incisive words.

Thank you so so much.

PLease consider posting on soem of the other topics on this site, we could all do with a bit of plain speaking like yours

An interesting point ukfarmer I'd like to see govts taking population control seriously (perhaps 2 children per couple?) for the whole world then we( well not us of course) might just have a world that is able to be lived in in a 100 yrs.

Thanks Cat, but the two C's and Millband are thinking about the interest charge on the debt, which I read is now £120 million a day.
As I say to my friends, if they are as rich as I take them to be "You will be perfectly alright, you can eat your money" UKFarmer
