LIttleMissTickles · 02/10/2010 17:14

no, but MrTickles would.

VanillaPumpkin · 02/10/2010 17:14

Hmm, I would allow 2 days but probably not 3, so no from me.

dahu · 02/10/2010 17:16

If the lid has not popped up I would, we ate ones from the 30th last night and was intending to finish tonight but may do for lunch tommorow.

Holymoly321 · 02/10/2010 17:16

Ok - good grief, another load of wasted food!

I'd eat it myself, but probably wouldn't give otto the children (assuming I noticed the date in the first place).

My red line for not eating a yoghurt is if it has begun to separate in the pot. They don't do this until well over a week past the printed date.

How long before someone tells me just how risky this is?

I would if it looked/smelt ok

Scootergrrrl · 02/10/2010 17:43

I would let them. Yogurt is already gone-off milk isn't it Grin ?

BertieBotts · 02/10/2010 17:45

Just open it and check! Confused

Separating isn't a particularly helpful way of checking - they do that well before they go off in my experience. Stick a finger in and dab it on your tongue. You'll know straight away if it's off or not.

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 02/10/2010 17:49

I would so long as they'd been kept in the fridge and the tops were not blown.

But then I happily eat (and let DD) eat food irrespective of the sell by date if it looks and smells ok.

Fiddledee · 02/10/2010 21:10

Once went to a lecture by a top guy at Danone saying that not only was yoghurt fine after the sell buy date but there was much more good bacteria for at least a week after the sell by date. I would use smell it first

orienteerer · 02/10/2010 21:11

yes, if it smells ok

girliefriend · 02/10/2010 21:13

yes, I always think you have at least a wk past what they say!!!

ChequeredFlag · 02/10/2010 21:14

It is tastes ok, what's the problem?

I would check it. You can definitely tell if a yoghurt is off (and can happen within sell by date as well).

onimolap · 02/10/2010 21:17

I'm really glad I saw this thread, I can now be even more careless in ignoring the printed dates!

sweetkitty · 02/10/2010 21:20

Mmm I would taste it and if it tastes fine would probably give them it. Yoghurt is a low pH food so less likely to be off than a neutral one. Often use by dates are shortened for taste reasons rather than safety, for example a food could have a 20 day shelf life but it's shortened to 14 days for quality.

I used to be a use by dater so to speak in that I used to set shelf lives for foods.
