How do you think I'd go about steaming them?

I'm still struggling to work out the best way to do 3 x 0.5L puddings as it is, whether to do them individually or just one 1.5L mixture & then split it into 3 & how long to steam for!

My brain is confused. I've never done a Christmas pudding before & now I can't figure out how to do it anyway once I get past mixing it together

Grrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

I'm lurking here for any microwavable pud recipes - why spend hours steaming?

I tried cooking in a microwave a few years ago and it didn't work, just sort of dried out and shrank a bit and went very solid.

I use an old recipe from the Atora book and they have to be steamed for about 9 hours to start with and then 4 on the day.

I agree... mix up a 1.5l mix, split it between the bowls and steam them. Cook them for the same amount of time as a bigger pud. The last time I did them I used a Waitrose recipe, which was really good.

I'll stick to steaming the traditional way then, just wondered if I could have got away with buying the cheaper microwaveable bowls

ppeat, I already thought about that, I've text my dad to pick me some pudding basins up from Lakeland while he's out in York for the day

Yeah normal pyrex types or white china IYKNWIM hope they turn out nice Smile

lucysmam · 07/10/2010 20:53

Thanks ppeat, it'd help if my dad had remembered the pudding basins when he went to York! Will be investing in pyrex from Wilko's over the next couple of weeks unless I find some nice small ones Smile

I just thought that you can get those little metal ones probably from a specialist kitchen shop they'd be ok?

lucysmam · 08/10/2010 20:48

Good thinking, I'll have a look next time I'm out that way
