My children always have and still do go through stages of eating a lot/hardly anything!

Kepp offering him different food and he will eat if he is hungry. He won't allow himself to starve.

They all do this. He will grow out of it. He will eat when he's hungry. Stop any snacks just before meal times, if he doesn't eat his dinner take it and don't offer anything else. Say gently, 'you're obviously not hungry'.

Don't stress. I bet he eats more than you think.

Is there any problem with his weight? Is HV/gp concerned for any reason?

If not, then yes, keep offering him things. If he eats it fine. If not, take it away, but no filling up on biscuits between meals. And don't let him know if you feel stressed about it; move on.

Toddlers have very small stomachs so get full quickly. Frequent small amounts of food is good, so snacking on fruit, breadsticks, raisins is fine.

Also, look at his diet over a longer period of time, e.g. a week rather than a day. So, he may hardly eat one day, but better the next and it evens out.

My son is just turned 3 and seems to turn his nose up at meals apart from tuna or beans. He eats better in the morning I find and he's not wasting away!

dd2 is still just coming out the other side. She is 3.5. I find if she has a good day, the next day she'll eat hardly anything.

Ds is 5 and is a good eater, but still doesn't eat as well as he did when he was a baby eg the only fruit he eats now are oranges and raisins. However, he eats most veggies and will try new foods so I'm happy.
