Does anyone have Saturday's Guardian magazine or Sunday's Observer magazine?

Can't remember which, but there was a recipe for pea soup with chorizo and parmesan - I think it was in either of these, but we were at PILs and left them there, and they have now been recycled.

If anyone has either, can you see if the recipe is in there, and would you mind typing the recipe for me?

I've tried searching their sites online and haven't had any joy.

TIA

MissisBoot · 29/09/2010 13:47

I have - somewhere - will search out...

MissisBoot · 29/09/2010 13:51

Can't find it in the main magazine - was it food monthly this week?

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/09/2010 14:03

I thought it was in the magazine - I know we took the Guardian down with us, and DH bought the Observer on Sunday.

The only other possibility would be in October's Good Housekeeping, but I've searched their website and can't find it either!

Thanks for trying.

I definitely remember seeing it somewhere though as thought it looked tasty - it wasn't from nigel slaters new book was it?

8rubberduckies · 29/09/2010 16:22

I read both this weekend and don't think it was in either sorry Sad, I would have remebered it if it was, sounds good!

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/09/2010 16:45

It could have been, Missis. There was a lovely colour picture of it as well.

I remember that part of the method involved frying the chorizo so that the oil came out of it, and using that as part of the garnish on the top, along with parmesan crisps.

I could probably have a guess at it, but it's for a dinner party, so I want to get it right!

I've googled but to no avail. But might try googling Nigel Slater.

I'll look through my recyling later - Have checked the food monthly and it wasn't it that - do you think it could have been the previous week? It's going to annoy me til I find it - I remember the picture too.

Have looked in Slater's book and its definitely not in there...

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/09/2010 17:09

No it was definitely this weekend.

Thank you for looking though!

Can't help but would love a peek when you find it BiWi Wink

Have a vat of split peas & the addition of chorizo would probably convince DP to eat them!

DuelingFanjo · 29/09/2010 20:41

I have the Observer Magazine and the Observer Food magazine but can't find the recipe in either sorry :(

taffetacat · 29/09/2010 20:59

Grrr its annoying me now as I have some vague recollection of it. We have the Guardian every day, but I guess if it had a pic it could only have been in the mag at the weekend ( have checked the student food booklet ).

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/09/2010 21:14

So frustrating, isn't it?! I can't think where else I must have seen it.

JetLi - it was a recipe that used frozen (or fresh) peas, rather than split peas, so would end up with a different texture and a fresher taste, I think.

I might just have a go at making it up - if I search for pea soup recipes online, I'm sure I can work something out.

I will report back!

Found this one - anything like it?

Ingredients

1 kg frozen peas
200g chorizo
1 onion finely chopped
1 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 chillies finely chopped
1 cup veg stock
Paprika

Method

Fry garlic, onion and chilli gently until softened.

Slice about two thirds of chorizo and throw into the hot pan, fry for a few minutes and then add frozen peas.

On top of the peas pour in the cup of stock as well as about two cups of hot water.

Leave to simmer for around twenty minutes and then add about a teaspoon of paprika.

Take the rest of your chorizo and chop it up into bits, put it into a hot pan and crisp up.

You don?t need to add any oil as the chorizo will ooze it?s own beautiful saffron-gold oils.

Ladle your pea mixture into a blender and blitz.

Serve with a sprinkling of paprika and a scattering of crispy bits.

Thanks tb - have made the soup now, however! I couldn't find the recipe anywhere. I know it was 'make soup', 'dice and fry chorizo till the oil comes out, drain and reserve oil', 'make parmesan crisps', serve soup, put spoonful diced chorizo on top and a drizzle of the oil, then top with parmesan crisp'

I made my soup with onion, butter, frozen peas and chicken stock. Tastes OK!

I really appreciate you going to all this trouble, though!

LOL , you will probably find it at PIL's house in 10 years time, in a Good Housekeeping mag from 1993.
