Vegetarian main course for a crowd

Cooking for nine people next weekend, one of whom is a v fussy, non-veggie, 11 year old (not mine!). Any ideas for something lovely that I could cook that will keep everybody happy?

Would prefer it to be entirely veggie. No mushrooms, not curry (shame - as that would be so easy) and no tinned tomatoes!

A huge pie might be nice but I have no idea what to put in it, or something else that could perhaps be served with roast or baked potatoes and vege.

I will probably do crumble and custard for pudding.

Think family 'supper' rather than dinner party style.

Penona - that sounds good too. I don't run a Manchester school but I am a teacher (same old suit since 1962)...:)

oh yes science bint, they round lovely. And reminded me there was that whole thread about "substantial salads" most were veggy, that might be usefull for you bg.

Sciencebint, your pain bagnet sounded so nice I made it for tea tonight. It was lovely - I spread pesto round the inside of the hollowed out loaf for extra flavour and warmed it in the oven for five minutes before filling with veg - gave it a nice crunch. YumSmile

Was going to do a crumble - could do toffee apple crumble maybe? Or chocolate pudding - the one that makes its own sauce?

I could do 'real' sausages for the meat eaters too. Corn on the cob maybe? Onions, relishes. Some coleslaw and salad. Would baked potatoes make it carb overkill? Anything else?

Cornets are a v good idea too. I usually do soemthing like icecream and bashed Maltesers for the children so there's more pudding for us!

I think you'll find that there is a law that states that you must have parkin for pudding at any event that fancies itself as bonfire night.

and jacket spuds, though best eat them first.

See, I know that rule about baked spuds - which is why I asked.

And OMG I ADORE parkin but have never made it. Do you have a good recipe?

And to be a REAL bonfire night affair one needs bonfire toffee and soup as well - not together!

tbh i've only made it a couple of times so not much experience. Think i used a sue lawrance recipie but haven't done it for a couple of years Blush. You do need to make it in advance, a week or so...how long do you have? Five days should do it. Grin

No time to make ahead as have a manic week this week. Oh well - Parkin is not the only pudding, I guess!

Don't base your entire meal around a spoilt child. Give her pasta with cheese and make something yummy for everyone else!
She will see everyone eating their meals and might want to try some.

She's not a spoilt child, honestly. She's lovley - but she prefers her meat and two vege and that's just not the way I cook. :)

the only quiches i have seen any where (by which i mean telly and what have you) for ages have been on come dine with me and had no pastry! Shock Confused
