my son is 3 and my daughter is 14 months.
He will eat most things, though he doesnt like sandwiches (?).

She is more fussy and independent- likes eating pasta and rice and a few types of tomato sauce, spag bol, scrambled egg, cheese, most fruit and yogurt but not much else. She likes finger food and feeding herself when poss.

I'd like to introduce some new recipes that she will try- ideally they would be quite similar to what she already eats, with maybe a few new ingriedients so i could gradually mover her on to new things.

I've got all the annabel karmel books etc but still struggling. Pls help!!! And stuff i can freeze would help.

Frankly she seems to be eating well- carbs in pasta and rice, protein in meat, cheese etc, lots of vitamins in fruit. Eggs are v.good for young children.

I would just try different things, especially that she likes finger foods, to see what appeals to her. I don't really get the A.Karmel cookbooks tbh- seems like a lot of faff to me to cook separate elaborate meals for kids.

My DC eat what we DP and I are eating and if sometimes she doesn't like what I serve, than she goes without and I give her a chunk of cheese and fruit or similar.

Just offer her what you and DS are eating.

there are loads of recipes in the Mumsnet recipe section - lots of yummy ideas for weaning.

How about mashed potatoes?
veggie soups?

I must admit, by that age, my two were generally eating whatever we were eating....just include them in the family meals.

TeaOneSugar · 25/09/2010 14:37

I've never really understood separate meals for DCs, too much work and much better to eat as a family when you can.

I've got colleagues who do "the kids teas" and then dinner later for mum and dad, - two lots of washing up !!!

Sounds like they're both good eaters anyway.

sorry- think everyone misunderstood. DH works nearby so we do manage to have dinner together most days.
My diet wouldnt be that good if left to me alone but we try to eat what they eat as we want them to eat well and it encoruages us to.

so, anytips for nice failsafe recipes we can all eat?

Fish pie always a winner here....experiment with either a white or a tomato based sauce to see what she prefers.

Sausage casserole and chilli are also popular with my 2 (ages 4.8 and 1). What about fajitas is finger foods appeal - dd loves making her own wraps.

if

krisskross · 25/09/2010 15:40

hey detoxdiva- could do with a bit of detoxing myself, but on another note, can you give me an idea of a recipe for fish pie with tomato sauce? I think she would like that. Thanks for tips.

The Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food book is good.

Also this Jamie recipe:

I put some sweetcorn in as well if I have a tin handy.

detoxdiva · 25/09/2010 17:01

This is one that I used for inspiration pie- basically any tomato sauce will do. I also make my own sauce too either with onion, garlic, tinned toms, herbs etc, or with fresh toms when I get over run with them in the garden! or just buy one on lazy days Grin

detoxdiva · 25/09/2010 17:02

Oh, and substitute any fish too - my dc like smoked fish but it's not to everyone's taste so mix it up a bit with salmon, haddock or any old firm fish!
