ANyone got any good recipes that combine chicken and prunes? my baby daugher is 16 months, -5 on that awful growth chart (ie she is very small for her age) and she's slightly constipated. She likes rice and pasta but is not so keen on proteins or veg.

I thought I'd just saute some onions and then throw the chicken and prunes with a bit of stock, but other suggestions would be appreciated

You could do tagine-style dishes? Also works well with apricots.

Or I have a nice recipe that I make with pork fillet and prunes, but you could just as easily use chicken.

You saute onions and meat, then add prunes, creme fraiche and port (don't worry about the alcohol, it boils off). It's quite sweet so children like it.

I also have a kind of korma recipe which I make with apricots, almonds and chicken. I use chicken thighs which I roast on the bone first, then shred the meat off the bone and saute in butter with a puree of ginger, garlic and onions. Then add some mild spices (cumin, turmeric, coriander), a little salt-free chicken stock, a handful of finely chopped dried apricots and some ground almonds. It's very tasty.

I happen to have port and creme fraiche, so I'm gonna give that one a good. Many thanks!

the Korma sounds wonderful too, will try that another time

I made your delicious creme fraiche chicken thang and presented it to the baby girl mixed with pasta. She ate only the pasta. Hey Ho!

oh dear! Sorry Grin

If it's any consolation, mine were not big on meat until slightly later and they still don't really like chicken breast, I think they find it too dry. I usually use thighs or leftover roast chicken which they seem to prefer.

If she's a bit skinny she may be eating wisely for her frame, ie sticking to high energy foods like carbs and fat.

Sorry, maybe someone else will be along with good suggestions...

What about poaching the chicken with the prunes, adding swede or sweet potato that should disintegrate into the juices if it is cooked for an hour - will make it nice and sweet?
