Wheat intolerance? Or crap pharmacist?

Apologies in advance, wasn't really sure where to post this. 15 month old DD aka Captain Thunderpants has had 2 rough nights waking frequently with planet shattering wind. (When she's awake she tends to grin enormously and give herself a round of applause. Ahem. Grin) Went into high st chemist to ask pharmacist for any general tips/topical relief, and pharmacist adamant that DD has wheat intolerance and that such an intolerance happens/develops overnight. If I don't immediately bin the weetabix I'm a bad parent etc etc.

Not for one second dissing those with actual wheat intolerance BUT I am extremely sceptical that DD has this. No history of any allergies in either side of the family. Been on solids, incl those with wheat, without problems since start of last Dec aged 6 months when started weaning. Sceptical also particularly as the pharmacist was trying to then sell me lots of rice cakes, wheat free products etc. I said thanks and left shop as quickly as I could, without buying anything. Only symptom(?) is the aforementioned planet-rocking gas fired backside that happens to have been firing on all cylinders over night the last couple of days. No diarrhoea; no constipation; normal regular nappies; no new foods recently (she eats pretty much anything). Thoughts? Is it worth me reinvesting in Infacol a year since we last used it?!? TIA.

Sorry I can't be of any practical help but just wanted to post and say you're right - definitely don't label her as wheat intolerant yet.
What an irresponsible pharmacist!

Thanks Morag. Elephant farting now much reduced (whatever it was has obviously passed pretty much!) despite weetabix, breadsticks etc continuing. Will leave my sceptical inclinations fully switched on. Defo crap pharmacist with an eye to a sales related bonus (one presumes). And yes, she works for a high st chain - the one with the HQ in Nottingham - whom I would always have trusted prior to this. Live & learn then!TTFN
