It occurred to me that there isnt a great deal to it, but looking at the jars they put all kinds of crud into it.
Got any recipes for it?

I think lasagne itself is a pretty anything goes kind of dish -dont think there is one way of doing it

Jamie does the mascarpone thing and it is quite nice but sooo much more expensive than making a sauce

he puts a layer of butternut squash in his too which is yummy

Jamie one sounds v delicious. i had an aunt who made it with layers of white sauce and layers of mince that weren't in any kind of tomato sauce and it put me off the white suace lasagne experience

try creme fraiche with parmesan and black pepper stirred thro it, much lighter, much easier, and much quicker!

I'm with gingerbear on this one - make it with just cornflour and milk. I use the microwave to heat the milk, and add the cornflour paste just before it's boiled, then heat it some more, whisking about every 30 secs until boiling, then add more cornflour paste if not thick enough. I then stuff loads of cheddar in and whisk it up until it's melted.

Whole sauce made in 3 or 4 mins, with no additive rubbish, and no fat required.

Yummy for macaroni cheese and cauliflower cheese too.

packets!

no fat required!

cornflour!

has the world gone mad!

I dont think I can cope anymore

Definitely use cornflour - blend some cornflour with milk to make a paste, add cold milk up to a pint, melt some butter in a pan, add milk/cornflour, heat to boiling when it should thicken, then add loads of extra mature cheddar cheese. Yum. I use this for Cauliflower Cheese as well.

Thanks all, ive made a veg tomato sauce this morning.
Looking at the jars, it cant be that hard and at least i know whats in it.
Why is it necissary to add so much crud?
Going to try the milk and cornflour method.

Donbean, if it doesn't thicken, don't just add more cornflour, make some more cornflour/milk paste, bring sauce back to boil and pour over paste, stirring continuously, and then pour back in pan and bring back to boil again, and that should thicken.

tortoiseshell · 05/09/2005 16:46

If too thick, just add more milk and stir like crazy!

mumtosomeone · 05/09/2005 16:48

i do the roux or a 'low fat version..milk thickened with cornflour!!!
