I need help from any cake experts - I need to make a round cake to feed 20 people. How big does it need to be?

I have 20 coming to a party and the cake recipe I have is for a 20cm round cake - so that would probably be enough for about 10 people. I guess I could make two of these cakes - but could I just increase the quantity of ingredients and make one bigger cake? I want to keep it round if I can - what size round cake tin would be big enough for 20 slices? And where can I get big enough cake tins (most seem to be 20cm or 23cm, so not much bigger!)? And if I just increase the quantities in the recipe and slap it in the larger tins and cook it a bit longer would that work? Aargh, this cake making sounds so easy but when you start trying to actually do it....any help gratefully received!

Can I ask why you want to keep it round/ I've found that a square cake can be cut in a better way to feed more iyswim.

Wow thanks for quick response, I guess I just thought aesthetically - but square would be OK I've just never cooked a square cake so have even less of a clue with sizes! How big a square tin would I need? And how many multiples of the recipe if it was originally meant for a 20cm round tin?

I did a same cm but square tin, then it can be even slices rather than wedges iyswim.

If you double the mix and put it in one large tin you will find it a nightmare to cook, the edges will pro9bably burn and the inside will still be sticky. How about two cakes of the same size, sandwiched together to make a big cake?

You can always have a second cake in the kitchen and then one out for cutting.
