How do I get 15 month old's meals right ?

I am in the process of reducing son's bottles of milk to just two at night. i think he was not eating well because he was full of milk.

He has had a peice of fruit loaf for breakfast, then a long nap. Then at 12 he had pasta, chicken and carrots. He was tired but couldn't sleep without his bottle of milk so we gave up. He was then all tearful and grumpy. I gave him a banana which he wolfed down. The trouble is, that was 3.30 and I intend to give him a meal at 4.30, but he won't want to eat it properly because of the banana. Do I postpone supper for an hour? I want them to eat meals instead of snacking all day. I am sickof offering them balanced meals that are poicked at, then them asking for bread sticks and yogurts all evening.

Any ideas ? Where am i going wrong?

my ds is 15 months, he has cow's milk with meals

he eats porridge (with milk and cream), toast, yogurt and possibly berries for breakfast at about 7

lunch today was leftover chilli, with yogurt at noon

dinner is going to be beef casserole, with yogurt again at 5ish

perhaps he is eating his evening meal too soon? or you could try to give less of a snack - i usually only give the odd rusk or piece of cheese between meals

I think I will have to keep milk for bedtime because it is such a sleep aid, also he wakes for a bottle of milk in the night, that is his recommended 1 pint. ~Perhaps I should have given him just a piece of banana to keep him going until supper.

My boy's 15m and has morning cup cows milk, porridge and banana; morning snack; lunch; nap; 4pm snack & milk; tea at 6pm; cup cows milk before bed at 8pm. He generally eats best at breakfast and lunch but does eat some tea and will always eat fruit! Snacks are usually fruit or cheese and rice cake or something. Seems to work for him but of course we are all different...

Ideally your ds should be drinking his milk out of a cup now, not a bottle, as it can be bad for his teeth. Can you start to offer it in a sippy cup instead?

And waking for a bottle at night at 15m is likely to be more habit than necessity. Any chance of gradually reducing this so that he eventually sleeps through and gets a cup of milk in the morning when he wakes up instead? Also maybe a later evening meal would mean he's fuller for longer at night?
