6 month old DD not interested in breakfast - milk or cereal

DD seems to have lost interest in her breakfast milk and is also not interested in cereal/porridge etc. Her 11.15am bottle she only takes about 4 ozs and then might manage a few spoonfuls of veggie puree, her 2.30 bottle she'll have anything from 2-5 ozs depending on how distracted she is but then come 5pm she'll eat as much baby rice and fruit puree as I care to give her. I tried today to offer her baby rice and fruit puree at breakfast time to see if that would tempt her but to no avail.

I believe in the 'breakfast like a king and dinner like a pauper' theory so although I appreciate that we're all different and I certainly dont want to force her to eat or drink anything she doesn't want to (as if I could?!) I would like to try and see why her appetite is like this.

She has anywhere from 5-8 ozs at 7pm before bed.

Any ideas gratefully received.
TIA

Her appetite is like this because she's a baby and doesn't know that you might want her to eat differently!

She's only little and her appetite will change greatly in the coming months, so don't waste too much time worrying about it - go with the flow at the moment and she'll soon get the hang of it.

breakfast was the last meal I introduced to dd and it was at 7/8 months as she hadnt shown signs she wanted it. TBH she didnt ever take a lot of breakfast at all until I split up the milk and solids e.g. milk at 7am and solids at 8am - even then she never used to manage much more than half a weetabix (if I was really lucky). The amount she took at breakfast only really improved when she reach 1 year and she got a small drink of milk with breakfast rather than a whole bottle of milk before it.

It is early days yet so I wouldnt worry about the amounts your lo is taking just now.

should I be concerned about this though?

DD woke up about 7.30 this morning. Got her nappy changed etc and we came downstairs about 8am. I've now offered her milk and she's taken just 3 ozs before completely losing interest.
The last time she fed was at 6.45pm last night.

my dd was a bit like that. She wouldnt be very hungry in the morning but would steadily eat more as the day went on. I really wouldnt worry about it as long as she seems happy in herself and doesnt seem to be coming down with an illness. Teething can also cause appetite to decrease. Has she shown any signs of teething recently?

Another thought, how fast a teat are you using? - maybe your lo could do with a faster one now she is a bit older.

My ds was like this and still is, he wont eat for at least an hour within waking up, have you tried fruit poree or yoghurt?

mckenzie · 03/09/2005 21:32

I was thinking that Seona1973 as well and have just been and bought some faster flow teats to see if that makes a difference. She is a happy little soul so i know I shoudln't worry really but you cant help it someitmes can you?
And thanks for the yoghurt idea waterfalls. I've got some organic natural yoghurt in the fridge as it happens so I'll try that in the morning perhaps with some of the leftover mango from her tea this evening (first time she's had it and I think she'd have eaten the whole thing. I can see DD and DS fighting over it in the future as DS already fights me for it

Mine at this age loved mashed banana and whole milk yoghurt!

mckenzie · 03/09/2005 22:16

she loved mashed banana at 5pm this evening kidstrack2 (after she'd polished off all the rice and mango) but when i offered it to her the other day for breakfast she took only about 2 mouthfuls.

Thinking about it, she's obviously taking after her father as he doesn't eat much at all in the morning. DS takes after me and we each have a huge plate of fresh fruit followed by a big bowl of cereal or croissants, toast, muffins etc. I guess I need to accept that DD is allowed to be different and relax huh?
