How do I keep vegetables fresh?

I'm keeping all my vegetables in the bottom of one of the kitchen cupboards but they keep going off within a couple of days.

Is this because there is no fresh air getting them?

Where should I store them?

Thanks Confused

I keep most things in the fridge. It's usually best to remove any plastic packaging and for some veg (usually the leafy ones) I wrap them in newspaper or kitchen roll to absorb any moisture. Only usually onions and potatoes that aren't kept in the fridge.

Fridge for everything. Dark & cool.

If you have enough space, follow Happy's recommendation, but onions/spuds are also happy in the fridge.

I take them out of wrapping and keep them in the salad drawer of the fridge. I find even carrots last weeks in there

The only veg I don't keep in the fridge are potatoes and onions. Modern houses are too warm to keep vegetables without putting them in the fridge.

I don't put tomatoes in the fridge either as this affects the flavour.
