Top ten guilt free foods?

millarandmillar · 09/09/2010 10:46

Hello - I am relatively new to this so I hope you won't mind me coming in.

Really interested to hear everyone's thoughts on what they think are the best tasting guilt free foods (ie foods that can be happily eaten without feeling guilty for indulging)? I want to shed a few pounds without feeling cheated. Any ideas?
My faves are

Hot Chocolate Options
0% Greek Yoghurt with fruit or honey
Caramel Rice Cakes

I need a few more ideas if you will share?
Thanks

Horses for courses of course, but I wouldn't touch superv1xen's list even if I were paid to do so. And I'm not counting calories, eat what I please.
Don't have sweet tooth and find most processed food have a slightly chemical aftertaste.
Now scrambled eggs with chives and smoked salmon, Finncrisp with cream cheese, radishes and Maldon salt, rocket salad with tomato and roast beef - quite healthy and super tasty without being calorific bombs. Yumm.

Butternut squash and rosemary soup. Cut squash in half, scoop out seeds, drizzle over olive oil and fresh rosemary. Roast in oven, blend, add to stock and stir. Absolutely gorgeous.

Smoked salmon chowder - onions in a pan, tiny bit of oil, then add diced potato, cover with half stock half skimmed milk. Simmer till potatoes soft, add lemon juice and parsley, stir through smoked salmon.

I don't have a sweet tooth particularly but agree with Rollmops, stay away from chemicals and sweeteners and go for real flavours, you'll enjoy it more and stay fuller for longer.

Thereistheball i agree. I can devour with relish a huge bowl of steamed cabbage with a dash of tamari and tabasco. Oh yes! Grin

Cherry toms warm from the greenhouse are better than any rubbish fake sweet things.

Two or three squares of excellent quality dark choc.

A cucumber sandwich on fresh home made bread (hardly any salt, no fat or sugar, proper guilt free bread...that you can digest and everything). Needs no butter or anything. Not that i avoid butter, yet i still feel virtuous when i don't have it... Ooh, i didn't put butter on that apple earlier, good moonface! Or on that pie! My body is a temple... Hmm

I'm a low-carber too, and avoid processed foods almost completely. Had a totally delicious, indulgent and guilt-free lunch today of fried bacon and ceps, with new season's vacherin melted across the top, and a large bunch of watercress on the side. Heaven.

Avocado on rice cakes!

taffetacat · 09/09/2010 22:03

I love that 70's classic of cream cheese filled celery boats
Crackers/oatcake
Very fresh fruit or veg, washed and cut up
A dippy egg

HumphreyCobbler · 09/09/2010 22:08

frozen grapes

agree about the processed food, it doesn't help in the long run and it tastes rubbish and feeds the addiction

MoonFaceMama · 09/09/2010 22:11

taffeta, there is something lovely about cutting up fruit and veg rather than just eating it as it is isn't there! Sliced and on a plate, or an apple pared away at as it is consumed. Smile

MoonFaceMama · 09/09/2010 22:15

Frozen grapes are delish! Haven't had them in ages.
