I have got normal plastic boxes but feel like if I'm not carefull the soup will spill. What do you use?

Also I need other non fattening ideas for lunch if you have any? Somthing that will make me feel full for longer, so I have enough energy. Smile

My dh does this and takes it hot in a thermos funainer from amazon or frozen in some round screw top containers from Ikea. They have a blue lid. They work fine and are cheap.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 07/09/2010 13:02

I use a washed out milk carton.

TonariNoTotoro · 07/09/2010 13:04

these are perfect.

They can go in the freezer so you could make a batch for week :)

I used to use a wide-necked thermos like this one - found a normal flask was too narrow to fit chunky soups in.

This one is good for stews etc too.

lakeland do a wide necked flask for around £6

And for other lunches, I make a MASSIVE salad with enough variety and protein that it makes a properly filling meal. For example:

lettuce
cucumber
spring onion
pepper
chopped up almonds or some pine nuts
maybe some parmesan shavings
approx 100g cooked chicken or ham or cooked bacon (e.g. Waitrose sweet chilli chicken)
Pizza Express light dressing (I keep a bottle at work)

We use a stumpy Thermos-type flask that has a wide necked opening and even a folding spoon that slots into the lid

A food flask.

I save soup pots from the chiller section in morrisons or whatever, and re-use those. I buy them when they're on special offer, or reduced, and they're great for freezing home-made sauces and soups too, in individual portions :)

I have a little blue food flask from sainsburys I think it was about £3.

It's not too great at keeping the soup hot, but can be microwaved and is just the right size for a tin of carrot and coriander.

I used to buy fresh soup which comes in plastic jars with screw tops (from co-op or sainsbury's, but am sure they do them in loads of places), and then rinse out the jars and re-use for home-made soup. I have about six jars now which is more than enough for freezing some soup and keeping the rest in the fridge; there are two portions per jar.

The soups cost £1-£2 each, which is about the same as buying a new container, and you get to eat the soup too. The only drawback is that they stain with tomato- or chilli-based soups, but that's pretty much true of any plastic containers. I also pour the soup into a bowl before microwaving, which seems to make the jars last longer.
