Cheese strings

Are they full of crap or an ok snack?

I have got to start sending DD with a packed lunch to the childminders and I am looking for some easy bits and bobs to add in to the usual fruit, yoghurt etc.

I walked passed some cheese strings on offer in Tesco yesterday and I didn't stop to buy any because I thought they were bad for them.

But my friend said they are alright. Anyone know? Thanks.

Im not really sure, but im guessing there not the best.

I hate food like that - all the extra packaging and marketing for kids etc, so never buy it.

Can't you just send 'real' cheese cut into strips?

Itsjustafleshwound · 06/09/2010 12:47

They are no worse than any other processed cheese - I think! I don't think it will do you DD any harm if combined with other bits

simpson · 06/09/2010 12:49

Unfortunately my DS loves them...

I think if combined with other healthy things as other people have said I don't see the harm.

TooPragmatic · 06/09/2010 12:49

I don't think they actually contain crap. They just taste and look that way!

reddaisy · 06/09/2010 12:54

Thanks TooPragmatic, that is a relief! Wink

I have always shyed away from such things for DD until now but I am trying to save time but I might stick to chunks of normal cheese for now.

its just cheese is it not? No harm in it

CaptainNancy · 07/09/2010 09:56

Why is this in 'food'?

There something on the tv the other day on how they make cheese stringy. It is normal cheese with no extra additives, that has been heat treated to make more elastic.

muggglewump · 07/09/2010 10:03

I think they're OK. I wouldn't buy them instead of real cheese, or all the time but the odd one won't hurt.
I avoid them more as I prefer real stuff to that aimed at kids in the same way I buy natural yoghurt and fruit more often than frubes but don't ban anything.
