Really anything in a professional cook shop. I have Le-creuset but there are loads of great products out there.

Personally I wouldnt go for a set I would buy ind. pieces.

I buy from various places, cookshops and industrial pans which are great for batch cooking/large hams.

I've got a set of pans from this John Lewis range - we chose them to replace our Le Creuset. I actually far prefer them to the Le Creuset because they are nowhere near as heavy as the Le Creuset pans, and so I find them far easier to use - especially if I am using the biggest one for something heavy like potatoes.

This appears to be one of John Lewis's long-term ranges (by which I mean I bought the saucepans over three years ago, and they still have the same range in stock) so you would be able to add to the set as and when you want to - my sister bought me a 5l casserole pot as a present, because I wanted a pan big enough to do really big casseroles in, and for making stocks and soups.

Also, because it is stainless steel, it is tough and durable, and you can scour it or put it in the dishwasher, whereas I found that the surface on my Le creuset did degrade over time and got chipped and damaged, plus it didn't stand up too well to the dishwasher.

AGA stainless steel pans are super and much lighter than le creuset cast iron ones. They have very thick bases, and you don't need to have an aga to use them.

I have a Judge set that I was given as a wedding present, supplemented by a couple of Le Creuset things and then odds and ends I have picked up over the years.

tb, you can stack Aga pans in the oven too due to the flat lids - useful of cooking for a large number of people.

We have Circulon pans - not cheap but very good. Highly recommend.

moragbellingham · 03/09/2010 15:04

I have Circulon too. Amazon are doing a good deal at the moment.
Not sure if they are the same as Anolon? but they are brilliant.

I would always buy after Xmas or in summer in the sale as they're usually half price for a set of pans.
The long handled wok type things without lids are the best (never in the sale though).

Would love to know what anyone thinks of WMF.
They're in H of F and looking tempting.
