I've recently got a slow cooker and some recipe books - but there is no advice in the books about halving the portion sizes - all the recipes are for 4 people - if I just want to do it for 2 people do I need to adjust the timing? Thanks Smile

Do it for 4 then freeze half, thats what i do, then we have what i class as a "free meal" the following week with the other half of it.
MMM i LOVE my slow cooker Smile

We are on a very tight budget so its a great cheap and very easy way to feed your family.

I bought a large Turkey leg (£1.50) and cooked that last week in my slow cooker, the meat literally falls off the bone, i then made a quick curry with some of it and sandwiches for lunch the following day with some of it.
We are having a gammon joint cooked in coke in the slow cooker on saturday for friends coming for supper. honestly, meat just melts in your mouth.

i have slung whole chickens in there in the morning and come home from work to the most delish smells and thrown a sunday roast together for tea.
They are a great invention.

thanks -it is a great way to eat economically - gonna try a beef stew next week - but that gammon sounds great!

cheaper cuts of meat and poultry, so chicken thighs, or drummers are fab, meat jsut drops off the bone for hot chicken salads/stir fry/curry etc.
pork chops in gravy, are great.
You can sling in raw veg with a bit of stock for soups.

Can you put turkey legs and chicken in with out any liquid?

Still haven't got to grips with my slow cooker- I just don't have the confidence to chuck it all in and experiment!!

I would love the rough quantities / recipe for the gammon in coke Laloony. Am also intrigued as to wether you use any liquid when cooking chicken, turkey legs etc.
