Is a magimix really so much better than other food processors?

I'm wanting to buy a food processor and my sister raves about her magimix but.....they're so expensive! Do they do anything a cheaper machine couldn't (or do it better)? Have never had a food processor before so a bit of a newbie when it comes to features - would want to do cakes / pastry / blending / curry pastes etc, not sure how important grating / chopping veg is but suppose slicing / julienne might be useful...any thoughts appreciated Smile

I think they are. My mum had one in the eighties and it lasted 20 years. Mine has been going for 8 years, I've never had a part break and the motor is fantastic. It is a workhorse.

In a way, although they are expensive, if you do break a part, all the parts are available individually from dealers and on the internet and they are relatively cheap. This is not the case for lots of other brands, where once out of warranty you would probably have to replace the whole thing.

If you can stretch to it, then definitely buy one. I am sure it will last you longer and be more effective than a Kenwood or a Moulinex etc.

I have heard they use Cuisinart in lots of professional kitchens but again, they are £££.

i think so. i dithered over magimixes and got a kenwood instead. it is crapola and i wish i had got the magimix

Thanks wildstrawberry - I feared as much, my mums kenwood chef is now over 40yrs old and still going strong so I guess paying the extra is worth it.

So kenwoods aren't what they used to be! Was it the features that were rubbish or build etc. CerealOffender?

yep, i had a kenwood 15 years ago and it was fantastic and kept going but this one is really rattly. when i make pastry the flour escapes out the sides and the motor makes that overworked smell at the slightest thing.

That sounds rubbish - I will definitely save and wait for magimix

magimix is great but parts are expensive when you break/melt them - a bit too frequently in this house. Mine is 10 years old and running fine and used nearly every day.

I was wondering the same thing. It's very sad but I want a big magimix for my birthday.

I'm fed up of using my Braun mini chopper to do stuff in batches!
I do have a magimix mini but haven't noticed it being any better than the Braun.

I think Magimix are worth the money. All my other processors have died after a year or so. Magimix still going perfectly after 5 years, plus you can sling all bits in dishwasher so mega easy to clean up.
