cooking class for 12 year olds

I am thinking of starting one with a friend. To begin with, certainly, we are only thinking of covering our costs to see if it works. My friend and I both have 12 year old girls and they and lots of their friends have expressed an interest. I am a pretty good home cook (although certainly no Masterchef) and we were thinking of covering things like basic pasta dishes (including maybe making pasta which is fun and easy), cottage pie, casseroles; puddings, soups, desserts like crumbles, cakes, pavlovas etc

So .... I have a few questions please for anyone who has run something similar or whose kids go to a cookery class. How many kids do you think would work at a time in an average sized kitchen and separate dining room/working area? We thought 6-8? Do you have dishes which you think should be included? How long do you think each session should last? We thought of 2 hours. Is it a really daft idea? Confused

I have done similar things with Scouts before and I am a teacher so am used to working with kids. Any advice/ideas/recommendations?

TIA Smile

I have run an after school cookery club. I needed to have a current food hygiene certificate (you can now complete this online)

The class that I ran lasted one and a half hrs.

I had 8 children at a time and there were 2 other adults plus 1 child helper.

the children had a fab time and I always had a waiting list.

It was really good fun but exhausting, what with planning the recipes, shopping and setting up.

How much would you charge?? I charged £1.50 a week, luckily for us the School dinner people contributed £10 a week too.

We made scones, pitta pizza, cheese cake, chocolate chip cookies, carrot cake, bread, fruit kebabs and smoothies.

Not sure about costs - depends on ingredients obviously and most people (sadly not me!) where I live are rather well off! Was thinking to cover costs at Eu 5 pp to begin and see how we went from there. This would hopefully include the kids taking something home as well as tasting as they cooked. How old were the kids you worked with? These would be 12 and 13. Interesting about the food hygiene cert

Thanks for the advice!! Its really useful.

The children that I worked with were between 8 and 10 year olds.

Was also thinking of sending home a little handout each week with the recipes/instructions covered
