Heinz Baby Food

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, so my apologies if I've got it wrong

We do feed our DD (she's 9 months) on Heinz Baby food, I have tried cooking her stuff, but unless she can steal from our plates, she's really just not interested in Proper food.

I've noticed recently that the baby food once opened quickly turns into a soup even though it originally had a nice consistancy as soon as we opened it.

Our DD is not very food motivated, as we can easily spend an hour trying to get her to eat one meal - she's not fussy, just gets bored and then frustrated, but we cannot get her to eat faster to avoid this. The problem with her food now turning to a soup is that we often feed her in stages (a break between the first and second half), because once she gets frustrated there's just no point trying to force the food down her. but it's almost impossible to feed her what has teh consitancy of water - it just goes everywhere.

Does anyone else have a similar issue with Heinz baby food, I've never noticed it before.

There is only one of theirs my boy has liked but yes, it does turn into the consistency of soup pretty quickly - suspicious, isn't it?

It sounds like an uphill struggle to feed your DD though - is it just that she'll only open her mouth for the food every now and again? She doesn't sound too keen on the whole spoon-feeding thing. If she is stealing things from your plate it sounds like she is interested in 'proper' food. What happens if you put some of what you're eating in front of her?

My DS is a rubbish eater too so you have my sympathies!

have you tried putting real food onto her high chair tray so that she can pick it up herself with her fingers?

at 9 months old, esepcially if she is pulling food off your plates, i would ditch the jars and offer her what you're having in chunks she can hold or a consistency you can spoon in...

check jarred food ingredients, if water is the first ingredient, it's (a) not going to be very nutritious and (b) it's going to get sloppy

don't spend an hour getting her to eat a meal

it should not be a battle

as long as she is getting pletny of milk still, don't worry about 3 set meals a day

offer her breakfast, lunch and dinner, but don't spend an hour coaxing and persuading

if she is at the table with oyu, with food on her high chair tray, just let her sit and play and explore and she will eat, and also see meal times are also about being sociable

give her soup or runny dip with toast fingers to dip in or steamed vegetable chunks. pasta is a good finger food as are pieces of frittata and meatballs, chicken strips, cheese pieces, rice cakes etc etc etc

personally, id' get bored of eating after an hour.

Thanks for the advice - Just to say she ate her first meal of entirely finger food on her own, and it was all gone in 20 minutes - this was an entire avocardo, a couple of satsuma's (I did peel them) and a couple of fingers of cheesy toast.

Thank you so much for the advice!

Hoppefully this is the start of stress free meal times (well until the next change) :)

Think Heinz baby foods have always done this- my DD is 11 yrs now and I remember the food going watery if you let it hang about.
Took some jars on hols last week for DS (6 mths) and found that nothing had changed. I warmed one of the puds (rice pud I think)briefly in the microwave and it ended up the consistency of a cup of tea. I will stick to the stodgy home made stuff form now on- it freezes well and costs a fraction of the price.
