We are soon (yipee!) going on a self-catering holiday to Crete, what food do you take with you when you go on holiday? I was thinking of maybe some salad cream or t-bags - oh, I just don't know - any advise would be greatfully received. Thanks

herbs/spices? a basic cupboard of stuff you don't want to re-buy when you get there

Seriously, salad cream?

Don't you want to eat local food?

StormyWeather · 05/08/2010 23:19

A few teabags and coffee for when you arrive, then get out and buy local! Can't imagine taking salad cream all that distance.

I'm obviously going to buy and eat local food when I get there - I can't live on food out of a suitcase for 2 weeks. Just some basic suggestions like herbs/spices (thanks Some), but I have learnt to my cost (excuse the pun !) that while local food can be cheap (will it still be considering the recession in Greece?) some of the little extras can be very expensive. Yes, seriously I do like salad cream, does that make me a bad person ? I also enjoy olive oil and vinegar on salad as well :)

teabags, coffee, maybe herbs, salt, pepper.

also stick j cloths, and black rubbish sacks in sutcase, they always add up on the costws when you get ther and are very lightweight to shove in the pocket of suitcase.

basic stuff that you don't want to have to buy a whole packet/jar of. So - little sachets of sugar/salt/pepper (get collecting from restaurants NOW!) Blush

I'd buy olive oil there - much nicer and you don't run the risk of the bottle breaking and the rest of your suitcase's contents being ruined!

I'd take tea/coffee a tin of long life milk - great to have a drink when you get there.

Also salt/pepper/chilli/ herbs.

If you are getting in late I'd pack something for an evening meal : pasta/ pesto. If you are taking something in a jar then wrap in newspaper and then in a plastic bag.

Some members of my family love certain cereals so I'd pack some of that too.

Washing up liquid in a little bottle.
