I have all his books am a megafan

It depends how into cooking you are - Real Food is probably the best overall cook book but I think his first two real fast food and real good food are brilliant for faster meals.

The more he's been about the more grow your own, organic veggie he's become, so if that's not you then I'd leave the last two alone for now.

appetite is great for basics

I'd go for Real Food - it is structured around his 8 favourite foods, with a chapter on each - ie Bread, Chicken, Garlic, Potatoes, Cheese, Ice Cream, Chocolate. I have made more from this book than any other book I own and that is too many! After that I think I'd go with Appetite. HTH

We have just moved into our own house this year after years of married quarters. We have a very small veggie patch but have been quite impressed with what we have managed to produce this year! So I guess we are a little bit grow your own! What is The Kitchen Diaries one like? Off to look at Real Food on Amazon!!

Sorry, I actually meant Real Cooking not Real Food (though that is good too - they all are)

Kitchen diaries is great and if you grow your own you will like it.

I love his food and all his books, but being a bit of a grow your own wannabee, Kitchen Diaries is my favourite. It's so beautifully written I have spent hours reading it in the bath or in bed, without actually making many of the recipes! Most of the older recipe books should be pretty cheap on Amazon, I would imagine, as he goes back a fair few years now.

I love kitchen diaries - as it's structured by month it's very seasonal and it has some of his really great recipes in (including the legendary brownies)

Appetite is my fave.

I love "Real Food Fast" (meaning quickly, not extreme dieting). Brilliant for after school.
